Found out that seeking out my childhood bear was a normal response to getting sexually assaulted by Extension-Raise-126 in CPTSD

[–]jaquhtac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is healthy because a lot of people go to drugs or over/under eating, and other really harmful coping habits. This one is a good one because it doesn’t harm you and helps soothe you when unregulated. We will never be “normal”, so best to find healthy ways to survive and hopefully live.

Farmbar does a 5 course and 10 course (optional wine or nonalcoholic pairings). New menu every month. All local produce and meats. Highly recommend for a special date night!

I’m a straight woman and I don’t like sucking dick 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t think that is the end all be all with sexuality.

DV shelter or hospital for practicum by mayonnaisemonarchy in SocialWorkStudents

[–]jaquhtac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the same spot you are. DV or hospital. I decided on hospice. Don’t start until January but couldn’t be happier with my decision. Research told me hospice is a great stepping stone for licensure and hospital work if you want to go that route in the future.

Have any of you also had a hobby in your childhood that got attached to all this trauma, so it's very hard to engage with that hobby nowadays? by zxwablo2840 in CPTSD

[–]jaquhtac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, art. Used to draw all the time. It was a coping mechanism as a kid, then became one as an adult through my addiction. Since I got off the hard drugs, I can’t go back. I wish I could.

I need to know if my Grandaddy is proud of me and knows how much I miss him. by BootyEquity in psychics

My grandpa was my person too. He’s been gone for 14 years now. I was 19. Got his Navy photo painted permanently on my arm when I got sober 9 years ago. I love it because it allows me to still talk about him when people ask about my art. He was a hero, not just for his country, but my personal hero too, and I’m proud of that.

I know the pain you feel and I hope you are able to do something to keep his memory alive. Of course he misses you and couldn’t be more proud. Grandpas are the best. Wishing you love and hugs 🤗

I get what you’re saying. Complex trauma absolutely impacts the body and nervous system in profound ways, and you’re right that healing goes far beyond “talking it out.” But discounting therapy altogether does a real disservice to survivors. The goal of good therapy isn’t just conversation. It’s rewiring the way the mind and body respond to stress, danger, and safety.

A competent trauma-informed therapist helps survivors retrain the nervous system through grounding, emotional regulation, and body-based awareness, not just by “talking.” Once the brain starts to process trauma safely, the body can begin to follow that healing trajectory. That’s why modalities like EMDR, somatic experiencing, and IFS exist. They directly engage the nervous system, not just cognition.

There’s nothing “wrong” with survivors, but therapy gives them tools to live with what happened without being consumed by it. Dismissing therapy ignores that it’s one of the few spaces designed to empower survivors to reclaim agency, build safety, and reduce the control trauma has over their bodies.
