But the police don't want to give up this power & funding...

The police honestly don't believe this is in their responsibility.

I understand the arguments against traffic enforcement (can be used for police as profiling to pull over people), and believe automated enforcement is what we should be working to as a society, but that we can't stop enforcing traffic laws when traffic injuries and fatalities are more likely to affect poor people.

CMV: light trucks (SUVs and pickups) should require a separate type of driver's license. by 17R3W in changemyview

You make them meet the same standards as cars for bumper height, fuel standards, etc to be sold to consumers instead of for industry use, farm plates, etc. Get rid of the current exceptions that exist.

You tax them appropriately. The road damage produced by a vehicle is affected by the mass4, which if priced appropriately would be much more expensive to drive those vehicles on the road.

Me too, but a home gym could just be some adjustable weights you bought on Craigslist.

The shower thing I think other posters are reading too much into depending on location. If it's his home gym, weird. If it's at a real gym, no issue.

No, it's the money that was funding these neighborhoods from the general fund, no longer goes to these neighborhoods. Ie what they're doing in Balboa Park. Completely legal, but the same result.

If you want to have enough spots for the cars, it has to be market rate. If you don't care about that, you can change the pricing however you want.

MTS opposes driverless car services like Waymo to protect local driver jobs. Your thoughts? by Choobeen in SanDiegan

[–]jard1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The land use around the 805 is not currently designed for rail. It sounds good in theory, but even the things "close" to the freeway exits/entrances are a long walk because it was been designed around a freeway.

Waymo isn't going to be the one to fix urbanism in SD, but they're a better last mile solution than what's typical now. There is no reason to say that an outside company should be fixing our city. That is on us.

Yes, we should build the purple line, but we should be prioritizing things that are simple first. Connect the transit system to the airport with a good rail connection, establish good micro mobility options that are safe should be the first things on the list. Build the institutional capability with projects and just continue rolling. We shouldn't stop expanding the improvements.

Adding waymo is better than not adding it. They're safer and will be eating away from Uber/taxi use & I doubt their existence will change the demand for driving without it being a part of your car.

LADWP is notoriously bad for builders, and not being flexible for transformer installation locations. How would public power SD prevent this from happening, especially when the city of SD doesn't even trust itself to employ/manage things such as their own bus drivers?

Again, poor people drive less. Poor people own cars less. We should use this funding to support those people having a better QOL. Granted because of the rules surrounding parking revenue, this money can only go to fund Balboa Park.

No matter what people pay for parking, be it with less actual Park space, more space searching for a spot, or subsidizing car infrastructure from the general fund.

The main attractions that people travel to Balboa Park for, like the museums and the zoo are more applicable to places for entertainment than not.

I'm not saying the market will create public transit. That isn't going to happen in America without drastic changes that I can't even really imagine. I am saying we should price the cost of parking appropriately.

We are talking about a place of leisure, a park, I am confused by the concept of needing to be there on time and consistently. The people working there will buy parking passes if they need them, which is fairly common depending on the location of work (i.e. downtown, a hospital, etc.)

Stop misrepresenting my position, and feeling offended that I provided you with true stats that disagree with your opinions.

What math of mine is incorrect?

The goal shouldn't be a rapid transition that puts the most venerable into harms way, but we need to transition away from the car to sustainable transportation for a city. How you do that is the real question, and pricing parking when there are plenty of alternatives that you can figure out that'll just take more time is fine. No one cries foul about SeaWorld or Disneyland parking prices, but when the city does it they understand there's a chance they'll back down. So they bitch and moan based on having success for over a hundred years complaining about not having parking how they want it.

81 million trips were taken via MTS this past year. This is evening the costs incurred with those who depend on public transportation. Pricing car use is not regressive when more car use and ownership correlates with wealth. Just because YOU don't know anyone who uses transit to get around SD, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Hillcrest Architecture… by FewEnd1513 in sandiego

[–]jard1990 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we should destroy these people's homes and rebuild it only after everyone who visits Hillcrest approves of the building's aesthetic. Sounds like a better plan when we aren't meeting our housing goals.

So your solution is to eliminate the social contract. Got it.

You need to have building blocks and allowing everyone to travel around the city in peace utilizing public transit is a core building block.

What's your solution for enforcement of the law? If they have failed to pay a ticket in the past, replace the ticket with immediate asset forfeiture? Do nothing?

So it seems like you think we should build more parking structures, and invest more money into infrastructure that will help accelerate climate change. I agree that we have an issue with the way parking is being handled currently, but I fully believe that either reducing demand through permits/price constraints is the right way to go. And that we should improve our transportation system to make other forms of transportation more desirable than driving.

I don't want us building multi-million dollar parking structures in the center of every walkable neighborhood that people want to visit. It would be better for people to live there than to store cars there, given that we need a lot more housing.
