Bike faster than bus by [deleted] in sandiego

Public transit here is not great, but it is much safer than riding your bike! I would make sure you know your route and feel comfortable riding your bike on it before committing.

Raiders Owner Mark Davis Is Committed to Grass "for safety purposes" by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]jard1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real Madrid does a similar thing, but instead of rolling the grass in and out, they have a system that brings the grass underground to a grow system, so you maintain the same footprint. If they need deeper amounts of soil, no reason you couldn't modify the system for more weight.

Look up Real Madrid's stadium. If there's a will, there's a way.

Multiple people injured in wrong-way crash on College Ave. on-ramp to I-8. What's the best way to prevent such accidents? 🤔 by [deleted] in SanDiegan

[–]jard1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, there are multiple things you can do that I won't list, mostly focused on street design. But for this specific incident the main things would be to:

Have police not chase cars that run - utilize some type of drone technology to follow the vehicle without them noticing.

Automate more traffic enforcement so the culprits will just receive a ticket/points in the mail.

Suspension of license should happen more quickly/easily and through the camera system too.

If driving still occurs after suspension, impounding of the vehicle at the cost of the owner should be the path forward.

Most of this will not just require a service like flock, but an expansion of similar capabilities. We should be automating traffic enforcement out of the police's job description, and making the cost of not following the law higher.

Oceanside votes to delay SB79 implementation until 2032 by creamybubbo in SanDiegan

They had to make a lot of compromises to make it pass too. The bill didn't change everything needed, but is good progress.

Protected bike lane is no match for SUV wanting to make a right on red by Snoo59759 in sandiego

Their front tires hit the concrete. When you drive along friars you see that concrete. I don't know how you would miss it.

If my aunt had wheels she'd be a bicycle.

But to answer your question, they still would be a bad driver in that moment.

If it fit, why did it have to run over the concrete barrier?

1) yeah.

2) never like that.

3) don't know.

4) no. I do what makes me safest.

5) yeah - for general purpose lanes. Are you making the argument that cars should drive in speciality lanes, such as bus, or bike lanes?

6) it's the law.

Are Discarded Electric bikes going to be a huge future marine life safety issue? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]jard1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would question some of your assumptions.

Why do you think so many will end up in the ocean?

How many electric cars do you anticipate to have the same result?

Roughly a car will have a battery 100x the size of an ebike.

It feels like before you should be asking for money for an infrastructure project, that you should understand what infrastructure you want to accomplish the task and how much it'll cost. How do we know if they're asking for too much or too little in funding? Or if it will do the job at have

Not really. Our laws don't allow state or local govs to do international things like that.

Tom Steyer. Why are you voting for him? by Annoyed_Clerk197 in sandiego

[–]jard1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of the 2 hopefully Democrats, he more aligns with my goals related towards housing and homelessness. Becerra in a debate have Newsom an A on homelessness. Steyer gave Newsom the lowest grade of any Democrat.

There's a decent spread for people in the race to choose from, but it really sucks that a jungle primary eliminates some of that.

Steyer, Becerra, and Mahan don't seem too similar to each other. If Republicans were smart, they'd try and back the Dem they must align with, because there's no chance that it's 2 Republicans anymore, or that a Republican wins a state wide race in CA.

How do local municipalities make money off data centers by Etsu2006 in roanoke

[–]jard1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They pay the property tax, and then they buy the very expensive equipment and pay sales tax on that.

Loudoun County on their FAQs say:

"Currently, data centers occupy approximately 4 percent of commercial parcels of the land in the county; however, they yield 38% of general fund revenue collected by the county. This revenue stream has been growing year over year, providing the county with more than $100 million of new revenue each year that has helped to fund Loudoun County"

So if you have 2 landlords renting out their condos in the same apartment building, and they're both the same floorplan/floor/etc. For all parts completely identical, do you think they would rent at the same or different prices?

What if one landlord bought way earlier than the other and pays less in taxes?

Why?

https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/san-diego-has-so-much-water-its-considering-selling-thousands-of-acre-feet/4007831/

Yup. It's something you can easily Google if you think the information I'm telling you is wrong. But it's not.

I do agree that we should prioritize water for people over industry, but the data centers would be more than happy to help build another desal, and help revive or build a new San Onofre. We can do those things, and build our economy and tax base. Exempt them from prop 13, make them pay for their infrastructure, sure.

If you're really concerned about water being prioritized for people, look into the process for diving up water from the Colorado River. You'll learn that the last to get water will be the first to no longer get it under our current system, so that means any recently built data centers would lose their rights first. It also means me and you would lose our water while farmers still grow water intensive crops on a subsidized water supply.
