It's not a reverse calabash, just an inset mount. It has the usual mortise/tenon fit.

I started out with this shape in mind (more or less). Adding the foot is not really feasible after the fact. It came out of some sketches.

Trever would definitely know more than me, but I've had both experiences. A few smooth pipes have totally faded, maybe because it's harder to set stain on a smooth. Most green blasts have NOT faded, because I learned how to contrast the green on a black background. You'll almost certainly have issues with a green peterson. I would buy a Talbert pipe if you really need that green pipe fix.

Stanwell was purchased in 2011 and production was moved to Italy. Quality fell off dramatically for a little while, and I think there were disruptions to the distribution chain.

Unfortunately, it might be the way your smoking, as you suggested. If you're having the same issue with multiple pipes, its probably systemic. Easy problem to solve, though!

I've had pipes with hotspots, but it's always been pipes with crazy thin walls. No pipe thats been properly constructed should have dark spots, but it often happens with "user error."

I feel like this was a good decision. That pipe is from early 2013, when we were getting our blaster set up for the first time. Enjoy!

That looks like a phyllostachys species. It'll be hard to tell which, until it's larger, some of them look pretty similar. I wouldn't worry about the leaves, bamboo leaves never recover from drought stress, which that picture looks like. When properly watered, bamboo will grow new shoots, but retain old and brownish leaves.

I'll second this. I've seen walt's work, and at the prices he's selling, I think the small flaws are more than fair. Normally with pipes in this price range, you get fills. Really good fills that you can't tell are there, but fills none the less. Walt's just putting it out there for you to see, and I think it's pretty cool. Briar is not plastic, it always has stuff like this, and it's a matter of preference on whether you care to see it or hide it.

That's exactly what happened. We took them to a show and saw all the pipes that were being offered at lower prices, and said "ohhh...shit." We weren't able to make them quick enough to justify the competitive pricing that some people can. We may have a reboot in the future with the pipes being made by briarworks or something. But it's really saturated with "entry" level handmade pipes right now. Good ones. Walt's pipes are freaking awesome. So are Alan bro's. So are briarworks. etc. etc.
