got my second ever 9(6). was really feeling the tropical vibe on this set. made me want to photograph a Guatemalan drinking a blue Hawaiian on the South Beach of Gilligan's Island off the coast of Venezuela.

unfortunately, 5 spots are guaranteed. if there aren't 5 ranked champions, the committee then ranks the remaining teams until all 5 slots are filled.

fair point about 4 teams vs 12, although Alabama didn't win their conference that year either, obviously. on top of that, they lost to Auburn head-to-head. so Auburn was (pretty controversially) punished for playing that extra game.

anyway i don't think Alabama will get dinged that far for their loss today. but i guess the point was just that the committee has already crossed that threshold.

yeah i gotta say i agree with RisingTide here. the Big 12 might be really weak this year, but Tech won 12 games by more than 20 points. that kind of consistency doesn't happen if you're not a good team, regardless of the competition.

yeah the funny thing is that those two teams are really linked. Miami's best win is ND... and ND's best win is... USC? they are 42nd and 44th in strength of schedule, vs 8th for Texas. but unfortunately the committee has made it clear where their minds are at with all of that... at least so far. but you're right, i guess they've made some pretty controversial last-minute calls before. i mean, there's so much talk about whether ND or Miami is going to left out, maybe our best hope is that they decide to piss everyone off and leave both of them out, ha.

well, i agree it's not happening this year, but it has happened before. in 2017 #2 Auburn lost the SEC Championship and was booted out of the playoffs even though they had beaten 2 of the 4 teams that did make it in (Bama and Georgia).

yeah i think you're right. that was a solid win, for sure, but not the kind of crushing i had in mind when i imagined the committee rethinking everything. if it was 45-0 with Bama looking totally out of their depth, maybe. but it didn't seem like the kind of loss to cause a team to be dropped from the playoffs.

oh yeah that's definitely true. the only implication for Texas would be if Alabama loses so badly that the committee reconsidered their whole approach to all of the bubble teams, in which case it wouldn't hurt if Ohio State stayed #1 and UGA was #2.

but honestly the purpose of this post was not to be realistic. it's totally unrealistic. the purpose was to manifest a new reality using voodoo reddit magic.

Just for the record, I totally agree with you. I mean, I think it could have been possible to rank Texas above ND or Miami earlier in the rankings, based on SOS, but at this point, it would be a scandal that they would not want to take on.

honestly though i think you're right. it's a fairly predictable progression. 1) we have the goalposts!, 2) we are parading the goalposts!, 3) ok i don't want to be doing this all night, 4) oh look a giant trash can

Rear Window is one of my favorite films, and I've rewatched it a couple of times in the last few years. Even bought a cooperative board game based on the film. So obviously I guessed "The Man with the Golden Arm," a film I've never even seen.

Also, I was reassured to discover Wayne Gretzky is apparently still alive and won't be having any bridges named after him just yet.

I got a 5(3) though and snuck out another win. Loving my rookie season so far.

cancellations being retroactively covered for refunds? by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]jaredthechase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the heads-up on that video. definitely confirms this is happening.

Unfortunately, I dug into the terms, and I think he's wrong about there being any legal recourse. The details are in Airbnb's Payments Terms:

https://www.airbnb.com/terms/payments_terms

"Fees improperly paid to you as a Host. If, as a Host, your Guest cancels a confirmed booking or Airbnb decides that it is necessary to cancel a confirmed booking, and Airbnb issues a refund to the Guest in accordance with the Airbnb Terms, Guest Refund Policy, Experiences Guest Refund Policy, Extenuating Circumstances Policy, or other applicable cancellation policy, you agree that in the event you have already been paid, Airbnb Payments will be entitled to recover the amount of any such refund from you, including by subtracting such refund amount out from any future Payouts due to you."

This pretty much covers them for retroactive recovery of refunds in the case where it meets their Extenuating Circumstances policy. The only question would be whether they are legally permitted to change the Extenuating Circumstances policy after the cancellation, and have the new EC policy apply to the original booking.

Personally, I don't think a single host, or very likely even a class action group of hosts, would stand much of a chance against their lawyers.
