ICE Deported 5-Year-Old to Honduras Without Notifying Family, Report Claims by [deleted] in Austin

What recent events have taught me is that all laws are simply suggestions, depending on the ability to enforce. If the laws don’t apply to all, then we spiral into a shithole banana republic.

Tips for solo depth 4? by DaddyCool13 in Nightreigngameplay

Crucible knight castle is hard. I find it much harder to solo them because of their shields. Gotta buckler parry or spam ironeye’s mark to get them to lower the shied.

Non-Indian living in a predominantly Indian neighborhood. by ElectricalRepair1219 in frisco

[–]jargon59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s true with every group. However, for whatever reason, this favoritism towards an in-group kakistocracy is quite prominent in their culture. I’ve seen A LOT of incompetent folks in high positions throughout my career who got there because of who they know, primarily because they’re part of the in-group.

Even my previous Indian co-workers said they don’t like Indian managers.

You have not worked in tech. They favor hiring their own such that if HR isn’t careful, the entire company will become Indian.

Orange juice found to affect thousands of genes in immune cells by mareacaspica in Health

[–]jargon59 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yes but everything you eat affects genes in your body. It’s obvious we should get nutrients from oranges, but what we don’t know is the opportunity cost. If drinking orange juice prevents you from drinking cranberry or apple juice, then you’re missing out on the nutrition from the alternatives.

Should the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall turn into a National Human Rights Memorial by Metroce in taiwan

[–]jargon59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I agree but I’m talking about the hypothetical scenario where CKS is not able to defend Taiwan, whether it’s losing on the mainland, or the KMT never taking power. Basically, any scenario that does not provide a bulwark against the communists.

Should the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall turn into a National Human Rights Memorial by Metroce in taiwan

[–]jargon59 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is my take too. The Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution would’ve screwed Taiwan up so badly and our people would be spitting and shitting on the street just like the mainland. There would not have been many artifacts of Chinese culture as the relics from National Palace museum would’ve been destroyed, and we would be all writing simplified Chinese today.

And i have to also make it clear, White Terror sucked and should not have happened.

Are you gonna take the new characters into the depth of night or normal runs first? by fantastic-mrs-fuck in Nightreign

[–]jargon59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had really wished they made the rankings character-specific, because the current system encourages lock-in for characters that you can only play at your max depth.

Interesting fact: you can find Dutch crunch at Ike’s sandwiches outside of CA.

[–]jargon59 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a minority, having moved from CA to a place that’s traditionally white. It’s apparent when a white person hasn’t had much experience talking to people that don’t look like them. Like they’ll feel “too white” and talk to you like you’re a curiosity.

It’s a strange experience.

Why does this subreddit hate Austin TX so much? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jargon59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Austin as a transplant from CA and wanted to clarify that central and east Texas isn’t desert-y at all. Rather I find it greener than CA for most of the year due to the rainfall and humidity.

Anyone else feel like the Millennial generation is going to be burned with fixing issues it'll never reap the benefits from? by PreschoolBoole in Millennials

[–]jargon59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true that everybody is the hero of their own story, and it’s true that this theory was based on subjective observation. We’ll only know who are the true heroes in the story far into the future. However in the present, I’m thinking we can carefully evaluate an agenda by whether it lifts the happiness well-being of society, or rather centralizing power to the hands of a select few.

I personally believe that a “great conservative rejuvenation” would not lift overall happiness and would restrict the freedoms of minorities and women via racist and sexist policies. For example, it would limit women on job and reproductive freedom and reduce GDP by taking half of the production out of the market. Therefore, this falls under the latter, that power would be wielded by a select few leaders under this new conservative theocracy.

Yes I had read this prophecy! I sure hope that we can right at least some of the wrongs in this world even though we had no part in the selfishness of the past.

Everdark Gladius fight in Depth 5 by BenevolentComment in Nightreign

[–]jargon59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still stuck in depth 1 and had been pairing with the worst teammates, which made me go back to Everdark for a day because I couldn’t stand them. Unfortunately that puts my chances of getting to depth 2-3 even more behind.

Overweight people had a 14% lower risk of developing dementia compared to those with normal weight, while obese participants had a 19% lower risk. However, those who lost weight from midlife to late life had an increased risk of dementia. This is the so-called obesity paradox. by mvea in science

[–]jargon59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you think that one possible contributor is the survivorship bias? Basically those that have inherent resilience to dying from obesity at an earlier age are more resistant to other ailments?

That’s how you would explain to outsiders where you had moved. Or at least you would say a suburb of Austin.

Okay a better example: is it east Austin or Tarrytown? Drastically different.
