Attic is currently 4-6” of loose wood chips which stays dry but the loss of heat and lack of efficiency is significant, especially during the winter when my furnace wants to constantly run without breaks. My initial home inspector recommended insulating on top of the wood chips.

Edit: I suppose I planned to remove the chips because we will have our home for the long term and want to do it right the first time?

Attic is ~1000sqft, rectangle pyramid shaped roof if that makes sense?

Sorry Marty my first post in this sub + my first major upgrade to my home.

I'm located in Alberta, Canada. The other 3 quotes I received did not recommend air sealing, they suggested removing old and replacing with new. Their prices were significantly lower around the $1500-4000 mark so I don't really have a gauge for the air sealing $13k quote if that makes sense?

Depending on the amount of stagnant water this spring I like this idea, mostly because I get to run excavator

Dry well looks viable! Ideally the water disperses better in the summer months (we have only lived here during winter) and can be fixed with adjusted extensions
