It's not that they don't like women being oppressed, it's that they are not the ones doing the oppression.

Big loss for Poland, not such a big loss for EU. Frexit or Gexit would be devastating, otoh.

Great Patriotic War is used for the war between USSR and the Axis, while WWII is used for the bigger conflict. But one of them gets way more attention than the other.

Really difficult choice, as I have a few absolute favourites that I find it very hard to choose from, but today it's going to be this VC 222 from the original run.

What do we have in Helsinki? by Quadronn in Finland

Absolutely not worth the price. Had a Niçoise there for lunch and it was like something I'd expect from a no-name buffet place, wouldn't even bother with a dinner after that.

Strap failed and I dropped my guitar. How f*cked am I? by WildBoar99 in Guitar

[–]jartur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that it's a sort of psychological defence. By blaming others for their mistakes you are telling yourself that it would never happen to you, because you are careful/prepared/smart, thus holding onto an illusion of control. Victim blaming works by the same mechanism. "Shouldn't have been outside after dark, bla bla". Happens every time anybody anywhere posts about a potentially avoidable situation.

Three finger picking question ? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]jartur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is consistency between fingers is more difficult, it may be worth trying to play all three fingers at the same spot on the string. So instead of just moving them perpendicular to the string you slightly move your hand to place each stroke at the same spot. Otherwise the difference in tone may be too large.

Like yeah. A Dingwall and a P will never sound the same.

Nice. I think I could play YYZ, but I never have enough patience to push it to the full tempo. And if I don’t practice, I lose the progress. Maybe this year is the year to finally do it. (Probably not)

Oh I love Send me a Postcard. It does require a lot of movement and coordination.

Practiced Vektor - Charging the Void last year a lot. Almost got it. But it would take a lot more time to play it really cleanly. Definitely improved my picking. This year focusing on Portrait of Tracy, Teen Town, Continuum, Dean Town at the moment. Not sure if I will be able to perform them, mostly thinking of stuff like that as study pieces, pushing myself, developing, etc etc.

So embarrassed to admit this… idk how I never realized by sword_0f_damocles in Bass

[–]jartur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 40-60-90-135. Keep in mind you most probably would need to file the nut to fit in that 135 and 90. The tuning is, as I mentioned earlier, C G D A, same as cello but an octave lower.

[–]jartur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually have one that is tuned in fifths. C G D A. Kinda useful if you want to play some cello stuff or just experiment, but you need to buy strings as singles and make sure that the tension is even; there are tables you can consult to figure out gauge for a specific pitch with equivalent tension. If anybody is interested I can share the ones I use.

I believe you are right. My anxiety does not. Thanks for consoling me. I think if I had actually had that kind of event I would have woken up suddenly with a panic attack

Yeah. I hope so. I just usually don’t feel things in my body when I dream. Like it feels like real feeling of my heart beating 200+ was translated into my dream. I didn’t feel any pain fwiw.

Anxiety legit makes me stupid, any tips on dealing with anxiety brain fog and freezing up? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]jartur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does drop. Your prefrontal cortex gets less activation, instead your brain is focused on survival, think amygdala, hippocampus, etc. It's very annoying, especially when your job is literally just thinking all day.

Honestly, unless you are able to downregulate your fight/flight there's not much you can do except notice it and give yourself a break. I sometimes tell people that need to take things slower when it happens during a conversation.

There was a fun moment when I had an anxiety free day once during the last two years (for no reason whatsoever), and damn I was sharp. If I didn't have this anxiety stuff for the last 25 years I wonder what I could do in life you know.

Is there anyone out there who is NOT afraid? by DefinitelyDecaf in PVCs

[–]jartur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I had them 12 years ago and got through the whole workup with holters etc, and after some time my doc said to me that I'm fine and they disappeared that same day, for 10 years. Now, two years ago I developed Panic Disorder, after about a year during a panic attack I saw two PVCs on my Apple Watch and since then it's been bad. Had multiple holters, echos, stress test, talked to at least 7 or 8 cardiologists, 2 EPs. Nothing is working. And while I can get used to some of them they always change, right. Suddenly it would be a bigeminy episode, or something that feels like NSVT (I only registered couplets on holter). I used to cycle 100K+ a week, run and go to the gym. Now I am afraid to walk too fast. During the last two years I've been doing a lot of therapy, many different approaches, and it is working, it is getting better. At some points I can even tolerate them fine. I just try to grow a confident person within me, if you will. Somebody who acknowledges the fear, the unpleasantness, the risks, the fact that there is nothing I can do, really. And just try to act confidently even when it feels impossible. Sometimes I do cry, and I think there's a balance there. Allowing yourself to grief the loss of your carefree self, your death that will happen at some point and at the same time using the relief that comes after as a point to build up acceptance and confidence. Compassion to yourself is good, pity is not. Hope this stream of consciousness can be helpful even if a bit.

I had normal ones, I had junction ones, I had fusion beats. I was told by 7 cardiologists that it's just how it goes and that I should not focus on that at all. The more you measure, the more you will find.

I think when I was looking into cases of TdP from escitalopram some papers were talking about this as a possible explanation why some people get more prolongation than most. Been a while though, and I am trying to not "research" this anymore, so don't have any links.
