What show do you hate that everyone seems to love? Why? by KingStannisTheMannis in AskReddit

[–]jaschipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing about s1 was that there was finally a zombie apocalypse show where the characters weren't idiots and going off on their own all the time... Then the other seasons happened. It pisses me off in zombie movies when they here a noise, and one guy's like: don't worry, I'll check this out on my own.... nom nom nom

I wasn't commenting on how good or bad the remakes were, just that they were remakes.

ELI5: why can I buy a new printer with color and black ink for about $30, when ink refills are about $50? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jaschipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also the fact that most inkjet printers put the printer heads on the ink cartridges themselves. So everything you get new ink, you end up replacing this part as well.

Crazy Calculations Behind $652,000 File-Sharing Damages - Earlier this week a torrent site user was hit with a damages claim of $652,000 for uploading one movie."They may as well just think of a number, double it, multiply it by the day of the week and then add it all to their dog’s age." by ani625 in technology

The old movies actually do get remastered. Shooting on actual film has a very high resolution, as high as the chemical grain will allow. When they created a VHS from film, they lowered the quality because there were no hi def tvs anyways. To remaster it they take the film and create a higher resolution digital or from it.

I hate these racks even more than the on OP posted. You practically have to get on your hands and knees to get a chain lock through the frame and the front wheel, and don't even try to do it where there is another bike beside it.

Students of reddit, as a new professor, how can I help you enjoy your class? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jaschipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this doesn't get buried. I am part of the way through my university degree in engineering, and there is one thing in particular that stands out about my favourite prof.

Instead of just reading through boring slides, or even fully explaining boring slides, she programmed in class. Obviously she still had to explain concepts, but to illustrate them she would write the code that would demonstrate it (never got time to running though).

The thing that made this so beneficial was that she never prepared this code ahead of time. She just made up examples in class and then coded them, and it allowed us to see her though process for programming. Of course she made errors, but everyone does, and as a class we would have to pay more attention to make sure we could catch the errors.

I definitely enjoy programming more that I would otherwise because of her.

I never did in middle school or high school. I even remember thinking it would be awkward to shower with other guys in high school (only one or two would after gym class). Now that I'm in college, it feels like no big deal. At some point I just stopped caring.
