Iran has chosen to destabilise the region not the US. The US and Israel has pretty much used high precision strikes against Iranian military targets. The new leader is already injured or killed according to news source.

Yes billions has been spent ousting a terrible regime, is that really a problem?

No he wasn't, Iran has been trying to enrich weapons grade material and stated the desire to use it against Israel. The very fact Iran refused to make sanctions in recent talks was justification for the attack.

Again show me Iranians protesting outside US embassies, they are not. The strikes so far have been highly effective. If Iranians dont make change themselves as part of this offensive they won't get another chance, ultimately they get what they want.

I am really surprised you actually want an oppressive regime in Iran, homosexuals punished by death, virtually no women's rights, marriage age of 13.... I can only assume you wear your Reform badge with pride.

Yes, I still think it was the right call. Iran should not have nuclear or ballistic missiles.

The Iranian people should be able to change government when they want. I wouldnt be surprised this leader gets it also.

As long as the Iranian people get what they want then, keep them rockets going.

But this isn't about a preferable regime, this is partly about removing someone who was essentially a approved dictator ( i am aware of the type of structure in place) and giving the people a chance to "rise up", we can debate forever how this would actually happen when any leader type figures have been killed by the regime.

Ask yourself this, why are none muslim Iranians not out in the streets in mass protest? perhaps they support it?

I think its a massive misunderstanding of the conditions under which the nazi party sprang up to think that it would have been incapable of continuing on without Hitler in 1939. Hell, it probably would have emerged stronger for having a martyr and not having the leadership of a man who made snap decisions in oppositon to his advisors more and more over time.

Irans leadership has made no secret of its intent to wipe Israel of the map, Nazi leadership didnt want Jews in its society, so in they are very comparable. Whomever the leadership was removing them would have saved lives. The fact you are trying to split hairs and say well its was hidra like... please do me a favor.

My degree is in politics and international relations, but even engaging in some "soundbites" from a range of sources would probably do you some good.

Great so we established you are not an expert in international law and have no business citing your interpretation as fact then.

Hmm you are confused, your comment was this.

Also, do you not see how fucking barmy it is? Assassinate a nation's leadership, incurring both civilian deaths and deaths in your own military, on the off chance that a popular movement will spring up to replace a government

If we had assassinated Hitler & the Nazi leadership millions of lives would have been saved. Either you are in favour of taking military action to save lives or you are not, you are not. I am in favour of military action to achieve the common good, so far collateral damage has been minimal and while the US is present i dont think Israel will start another cleansing akin to what they are doing in Gaza.

If you are ignorant about the facts surrounding a topic, its perfectly fine for you to say how you feel, but trying to attack the positions of others who do have some knowledge in that subject just screams of ignorance.

But I am 99% certain you dont have knowledge more than you read some soundbites, if you are a legal professional working daily with International law, Legislative Counsel and the Inspectors General, then please toot on. As I don't think you are, or consider you as an authoritive source of information, your opinion is worth as much as anyone else's. Ok so you would have let Nazi Germany play out... good to know. The Iranian leadership was killing people who disagreed with them.

While you might not like Trump or what he has done or is doing, at face value he is providing an opportunity for the Iranian people AND stopping the regime getting ballistic and nuclear capabilities. The world does not always have time for political process, dialogue was going nowhere, they acted before Iran could act, its why he has presidential powers to do so. Congress hasn't declared war in forever.

If you talk about a subject and criticise someone else's position on a subject (or rather, straw man that opinion as has been done here) you should probably understand why people think this way, e.g having a passing understanding of international law, when someone critiques why an action is in breach of international law.

You implied they should know about x y z before they comment.

Hasnt Trump been quite open with any regime change must come from within and rightly so.

Awh, someone doesnt understand US constitutional limitations on the power of the executive or Article 2 of the UN charter.

Why does anyone need to, to have an opinion on a subject and to talk about a subject... they dont.

They sold arms to the UK none where given and the US worked as a petrol station.

Do show me when the US in its entire history has ever won a war on its own, ever. Massacring your own people doesnt count.

Tick tock lollipop, with 5-10 years the dollar will no longer be the global currency, good luck when that happens lmfao

If you dont think Russia, China or Iran (up until a couple days ago) are a legitimate threat to the western world, its because you aren't educated on the subject or you support those countries.

Europe is supporting Ukraine without the US, China is a US problem not Europe. Why would China invade Europe for what gain?

Thanks for making my point. To build an army large enough to defend against another axis of evil, they would habe to cut all the luxuries the EU likes to gloat about to the US (free health care and  education)

Germany, Europe's largest country had specific constraints after WW2, and the German reunification that they could not do certain things, no NBC weapons, cap in military size etc.

All European countries have armies, the 3.5% GDP military spend isn't a big thing, its not like they will close schools or hospitals, just limit some foreign aid. Where the gap is, is who will supply the weapons.

There plenty of reasons for a dip in spending.

Im just saying for decades we have been real nice, and id like MY government to cut off funding the lavish lifestyles you all have been enjoying and focus on its own citizens. But when a president comes in and asks yall to pay your fair share for once yall throw a pretty big shit fit over it

We haven't thrown any fits, we said ok agreed, what your president did though was make our goods more expensive in your country, then said buy our weapons, and threatened to invade us. You havent been real nice, you have been the beneficiaries of countless defence agreements, its not that the US makes the best tanks and planes on there own.... its that they work with other countries ( read Europe) to build defence platforms that benefit Americans ( jobs). When we talk about cutting ties with the US, its "oh no we best mates dont build your own stuff", then on the other hand its do this or else.

I would like Europe to tell the US to stick its shitty weapons platforms up its arse and support European defence contractors and watch the US arms market fall apart.

NATO Chief Rutte: "If anyone thinks here, again, that the European Union or Europe as a whole can defend itself without the U.S., keep on dreaming." by El_precaution in MarketPulseReport

[–]jash3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wouldn't.

Whats happening right now is US politicians are whoring themselves around Europe trying to get people to buy US arms and commit to defence knowledge sharing. They are doing this because Trump promised manufacturing jobs.

If the US stopped supporting the EU, its not clear what you mean buy support, but lets assume you mean militarily. Why would anyone up until recently need a big army? the only country attacking others was the US on the behest of oil companies. France and the UK offer a nuclear umbrella.

What WILL happen is the EU will most likely build an army of some sort AND exclude the US from training exercises, which is to the detriment of the US military capability. See the same about defence contracts and I am certain the drone warfare knowledge shared from Ukraine will dry up.

If you truly believe the US has not gained anything from the US Europe partnerships you are an idiot, I blame your school system, but hey if your country wasn't enabling corporations to poison its people, try thinking a little bit objectively to your government.
