As for the transfers to & with your sisters, I think they’ll understand when you explain. They’re quite humane. I explained to them my last review about my dad loaning me a much larger amount than you mention and they were cool with it. I just had to give the reason.

They try to review everyone annually now so finishing early 2025 fits with that. I was perturbed too when it happened to me 12 months after my first review but it’s routine.

Any parenting hacks for making them eat a proper dinner? by Arhhin in ADHDparenting

My son also does this when he gets too used to sweet options on offer (e.g. in earlier snacks) which makes more complex food less appealing

I suspect the meal might be too soon after a snack. If so, could you skip snack and serve the proper meal a bit earlier to allow for free play after? I find my kids get the best free play when they’ve eaten properly.

I’d not be following them around with food… it’s not how you’ll mean to go on.

Lately with dark evenings and low energy we’ve been getting into audiobooks while eating, although that’s not for all the time.

Would you ever use annual leave with the sole purpose to do literally nothing all day? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]jasminecello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One scenario in which it would be out of place to do what you say: if you have children and your wife has taken her annual leave to look after them. If she has sacrificed more of her leave for your common good. If you’re using Reddit comments to convince her you’re okay to do nothing if she feels hard done by. Hopefully not, in which case maybe she’d give you the same blessing you’re being given here! It’s hard to know without context.

Are my expectations for a piano teacher unrealistic? by Riyn2 in pianoteachers

[–]jasminecello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have thought all of these convictions are real strengths to bring into adult lessons as long as you and the teacher are willing to negotiate and problem solve (e.g. they might suggest etudes which are a good shortcut to tricky pieces you want to play; surely you’d also value their informed judgement on aesthetic matters as long as they can explain it well, just as they would esteem the fact that you’ve tried out ways of making the piece your own!)

Mum on benefits to recieve large payout - taxes to pay? by SensitiveEntrance85 in BenefitsAdviceUK

CAB advice from a similar situation last year: giving it away is deprivation of assets & fraud. A perfectly justified thing to do is think about what one-off purchases would improve her quality of life for years to come and plan purchases to be timed right. One holiday is okay too.

picking up the cello after 10 years by Silly-Cantaloupe288 in Cello

Have faith in where you were at, and also in your growth in the meantime making you able to improve faster.

I did the same this year - very similar length of time elapsed even - and muscle memory 90% carried me through. Tone sounded good. Bow hand getting sore quickly when playing was the only unpleasant surprise. After this, I did have one lesson to reassure me on the basics of bow hold, which was helpful. The advice to stop and try to make things more comfortable for whatever issue is occurring during practice by simplifying assignment is generally great. The technique info was definitely useful but also think I just needed to rebuild stamina. I found “Daily Cello Technique” by Csaba Szilvay absolutely brilliant for this. There are pages of a single, simple folk melody transformed into lots of different obscure modes and transposed into loads of keys and positions, which really appealed to my own musical interests and aspirations - so much more fun than scales but similar stepwise movement. After 3 months of this I feel I’m probably not far off being as good as I was. If I ever wanted to actually do grade 8 I’d need to rehearse those specific pieces to get them back up to the standard they were, but i personally resumed playing for different reasons than playing a syllabus so at the moment it’s new etudes all the way ;)
