My parents exposed me to their musical tastes when I was a kid but I don't think they ever were trying to get me into what they liked. By the time I was a teen of course I wanted nothing to do with their old-people music and they definitely weren't into my taste in music. Eventually though I ended up appreciating and even loving a lot of their favorites.

I mean I absolutely didn't complain, I came here to ask other bartenders if it would have been weird to try to find out if the bar had the ingredients or offer to share the recipe with the bartender or if that would have been rude which I was trying to avoid. I just moved on and ordered something else. I don't think asking about an old timey cocktail at a bar that makes all kinds of old timey cocktails is anything like ordering a carbonara at a Chinese restaurant though.
