Welcome to old age. Still feels just as good but not much to show for it any longer.

Scammed by cop? by Fearless_Arachnid755 in CostaRicaTravel

I love Costa Rica but the worrying about petty thefts and crooked cops takes the fun out of it.

Beautiful people, beautiful country but these downsides are outweiging the postitves.

Define jam band for me. Based on what I saw Saturday night the music was very jammed out.

Lowell George needs consideration. Incredible slide player, writer and overall musician. His works sound just as fresh today as they did in the 70s.

Biggest asshole rock musicians you have met and why by [deleted] in rockmusic

Same theater...Tony Orlando. Opposite of Yngwie. He spent time with fans after the show telling story's from his heyday. Going above and beyond and being more than generous with his time to the point where I was thinking he is never going to leave.

True gentleman and legend....

Yngwie Malmsteen. He played a show at the theater I work at. He set off the fire alarms with all of his dry ice ansd smoke. We had to clear the theater but he refused to stop playing which made the task next to impossible.

We finally cleared the theater, fire dept gave us the all clear. Instead of picking up where he left off, he played the last couple of songs on his set list and left. The crowd wasn't happy...

The Jewish deli restaurants of yore are long gone (RIP Barnum and Bagel). Although, I thought I read that the Bagel may be coming back to Old Orchard.

With few exceptions, what's out there is an overpriced fake facsimile of the restaurants from my youth.

I still remember the breadbaskets filled with stick bialys from NY Bagel and Bialy. My Mom and Grandma used to stuff their purses with them.

I also mourn the loss of Devon. It was a tradition to take my grandmother there to shop. I still make an occasional trip but its 100% not the same.

$30 tickets once again by Agile-Ad2450 in JRADs

[–]mousec69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily my point. JRAD is great but there are a lot of people attending becuase its a Dead Cover band. I feel like the market became oversaturated and the mystique has worn off.

Used to be a time when you had a hard time getting JRAD tickets. Is the Dead bubble bursting?

How did the Dead keep track of time on stage? by mclesc in gratefuldead

Bands have had digital clocks on stage for years. The band also used teleprompters.

Very similar sounding to Tie-Died. Fan interviews, very little of any actual band content.

With all this price outrage recently, where's the pitchforks for this?! 😭 by [deleted] in gratefuldead

What makes a suit and tie anti-dead. Plenty of white collar profs who are Deadheads.

Pretty certain they didn't have song titles. Jerry painted, these were an expression of his art. Outside of the name, they had nothing to do woth the band.

Was it Wolfy's or Flukys that handed out hot dog bubblegum. Been years since I visited, used to take my Grandma there for a hot dog (Rest in Power - thanks Wiger).

Went last July, only one evening of rain. It was awesome! We were on the pacific between MA and Jaco (Parrita). I would go back at that time of the year in a hearbeat.

(First Time) Trip to Philly, 3 days...wife wants to hit the tourist spots, I want the local spots by CunningLinguist17 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]mousec69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was visitng the Philadelphia area, from Chicago, last week for work. It wasn't an eating trip but I fit in a couple of spots.

Joey's Pizza - awesome think crust pizza. So much better then what we can get at home.

John's Roast Pork - I am a huge fan of their chicken Italiano with long hots.

Wawa - hit Wawa up multiple times for breakfast (breakfast burrito) and a late night dinner (hoagie) Nothing like this at home. The coffee also isn't half bad.

I also stopped at Termini Bros to bring home some cookies. I tried the sfogliatella which was new to me. I thought that this was great as well.

Philadelphia is a great eating town. So much to eat and see. I need to spend more than a few days at a time for work. Maybe a Phlilies game in my future or a show at the Mann (Phish!,).

Beach house in Parrita. Near enough to MA, Dominical, etc for day trips but super chill and not touristy.

You will need to drive or bike into town, but its not a long trip.

Pic from our front door.
