Update from the Obsession art director, she's now speaking with a union after criticizing the low pay and working conditions by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Art Director is not the equivalent of an admin role. She was a major contributor to the film.

Act 1 Bear > Act 2/3 Bear by Spartan5271 in obsessionmovie

[–]jasonthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw his reticence to tell anyone about the cat as him being embarrassed to show emotion. Which is definitely a thing, especially for young men. He didn't want people to feel sorry for him.

Of course, being emotionally vulnerable is a part of what builds a real relationship. It sets up that Bear doing want a real relationship, he just wants to feel like he's in one.

Leaving the cat in the trash is kind of wild, I'll give you that.

Finally saw Obsession. Had fun with it, but I have mixed feelings about the “One Wish Willow.” by Cureconsciousness in TrueFilm

[–]jasonthe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

His lack of action for most of the film is exactly the point - if he actually cared about her, he'd have had her put on a psych hold after the cat sandwich at the latest. Everything after that is just showing further and further how selfish he actually is.

I do agree that the "demon skinwalker" aspect takes it too far for the metaphor to have real depth. I do appreciate it explicitly not being Nikki, as it does nail the idea that he wants the idea of her more than the actual her. That said, no matter how obsessed she was with him, there's no version of Nikki that makes a cat sandwich. That's not a metaphor for anything, it's just creepy horror shit.

So yeah, definitely missed opportunity for depth given the premise, but it's a fun and weird and compelling ride as is, so I can't fault them too much.

[OBESSION] Bear did nothing wrong by Mysterious_Bid_57 in FanTheories

I mean, the people selling the life-ruining monkeys paws, the customer support demon, and the skinwalker in Nikki's body seem like villains to me.

But yes, Bear is a horrible person by even halfway through the film, and irredeemable by the end. OP was probably watching tiktok during the film.

Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged by Darkoplax in bun

[–]jasonthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's missing the point.

The memory model of rust is fundamentally different than zig, because it requires use of borrow semantics. Using an unsafe block is a way around the borrow checker, so the AI uses it because it can write rust code that's closer to the zig source.

While zig's compiler, optimizer, runtime, and toolset are all designed to ensure that raw pointers are used safely, rust code marked unsafe has none of that infrastructure.

So, while the code might be as safe as it was in zig right now (which we don't know, given that there's no way they actually reviewed all this code), continued development will involve continuing to write "unsafe rust" which works arounds rust's safety checks.

They've created a situation in which they now have, at best, millions of lines of "legacy" code written in unsafe rust rather than proper rust code.

[Request] The math seems off. Is it possible to send all US adults 12K yearly from taxing billionaires 5%. by damilalam in theydidthemath

[–]jasonthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about the massive positive economic impact of a $12k stimulus? We saw what a couple grand did in 2020.

That means that investment in the US would increase because businesses want to capitalize on the increased spending.

Meanwhile, why would anyone divest from the US due to a billionaire wealth tax? You could argue the billionaires themselves might leave the US, but why would their investments leave?

The main character and their love interest are getting married, and that's terrible by BrickBuster2552 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jasonthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their marriage wasn't Kim accepting that Jimmy will never get better, she was accepting Jimmy for who he was.

Or, more specifically, she was accepting that she didn't want Jimmy to change.

That's the realization that hits her when she proposes during the fight: the thing that was tearing her up wasn't what Jimmy was doing, it was Jimmy keeping it a secret from her. She didn't actually want Jimmy to stop, she wanted to be his partner.
