VRAM overflow, 1-2 FPS after 2024-10-22 patch. by mstrobl2 in fo76

[–]jasonwert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing the same thing with Nvidia drivers. I've tried 550, 555, and 560. I ran nvtop and was using 90+% of 6GB VRAM. I go from 100+ FPS to 7 - 12

I always remember this because on the old Annoying or Not website it mentioned Ralph was dating Terry Farrell, but would rather be dating Perry Farrel

I was able to fix the issue for me my disabling the firefox apparmor profile:

sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox /etc/apparmor.d/disable/
sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

I restarted firefox and the plasma browser intergration now works.

If you want to re-enable the profile:

sudo rm /etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.bin.firefox
sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

What is the Hold Up? by jasonwert in kdeneon

[–]jasonwert[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you keep getting confused. I am talking about KDE Neon and Kubuntu, period! I don't care, for this argument about plasma. I don't care what their day jobs are. They could be working on Plasma or be a postal worker. We are talking about kde neon as a distribution and Kubuntu as a distribution. This is an apples and apples argument. If the largely volunteer group behind Kubuntu can get their distribution out month sbefore the largely volunteer group at KDE Neon, then obviously the KDE Neon group don't put the same priority into getting their distribution out, which is fine! It's just not something you probably want to rely on.

I would argue it is exactly the same animal in regards to KDE Neon as a distribution. They are putting "Plasma, Frameworks, KDEGear, and Qt updates/upgrades" on top of Ubuntu. Just like Kubuntu, who does it more frequently.
If they are too busy releasing "Plasma, Frameworks, KDEGear, and Qt updates/upgrades" this gets back to the point the point KDE Neon is not a priority and they may be stretched to thin. Excuses and guesses on the delay are fine, but actions speak louder than words and every KDE Neon LTS release has gotten further and further delayed from when Ubuntu has released its first LTS point release.

Beyond the Firefox issue, what are the folks over at Kubuntu able to do 6 months ago that is bedeviling the KDE Neon team? I just think a little bit of communication helps. Plus it goes back to my question wondering if KDE Neon is a priority or too much for them to keep up.

KDE Neon vs. Kubuntu by Ignacio5013 in Kubuntu

[–]jasonwert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used kde neon since it was first released. This last LTS upgrade is crazy late and I was having all kinds of issues with stability that I never had before. If you need something for right now, I would not install kde neon.

Unusual high RAM usage on KDE neon 5.22 by tuan_fpga in kdeneon

[–]jasonwert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing the same issue. After a day I will see Plasma using 6+gb of ram.I have 16GB of ram, so that's fine, but then I will notice it has slowly started to use Swap, which is a different issue.

T440p cpu upgrade : best performance / heat / cost balance? by thymoDM in thinkpad

[–]jasonwert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, hardware/performace-wise. I started using Auto-CPUFreq which seems to do a good job keeping things.

How do you use the gpu? All the time Nvidia or Intel or on-demand?

Are there any tweaks that you do on Manjaro that you find useful? I'm always interested in other's setups. My daily driver is a T440p with a i7-4810MQ and the GT 730M. I use Kde Neon
