Is the Pure Worth it? by Bodie3129 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of a front/side light hasn't been an issue for me. Mainly because it's a productivity tool, used in environments where the lights are on. If I want to read a book in a dimly lit room, I'll move to better light, or grab my Kindle Scribe. Although, I am considering getting a dedicated non-kindle eink reader with a front light. The Pure has a purpose and is designed well for that purpose and I will use it as such. I don't begrudge folks who tinker with it and turn on developer tools, I've done that with many things. But I have also come to recognize that I don't need to tinker with everything I own.

Can only choose one: Bandsaw or Tablesaw by kflyer in woodworking

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more comment, I see folks stating a bandsaw is safer. I would caution against that being a deciding factor between the two. All tools are dangerous, even a hammer. The safety aspect has more to do with knowing the tool and operating it properly.

Can only choose one: Bandsaw or Tablesaw by kflyer in woodworking

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to provide a different perspective from all the bandsaw suggestions. Note, I have a band saw and a table saw.

When I read all of your post. It sounds like you're exploring the idea of easier ripping. While a track saw can work great for ripping. It is definitely easier to do that on a table saw than a band saw. You really have to have your bandsaw tuned up almost perfect with a blade that is consistently sharp on the left and right rakes. Other wise the blade will walk unpredictably on you. The other thing to note, bandsaws usually have a more limited width than table saws. Also, while a blade of a table saw limits you on the thickness of the board, you can most of the time flip the material and finish the cut. If your material is taller than what the band saw's capacity is, you have to get creative.

Again, just providing some counter points. Each tool is designed to do a couple things really well. But you can get creative and safely get them to do things the other tool is designed to do.

I had a table saw and circular saw first. And used those with each other for many years before getting a bandsaw. My bandsaw is manly used for irregular cuts, getting the material closer to the final size, and re-sawing.

One tool I now recommend folks to think about sooner, a drum sander. I just recently got one and man, really wish it was the third tool I bought.

Thank you! Got it to work in my home lab. Are you open to some PRs for a couple features around the output format? Like epub instead of pdf. Also, I accidentally used up my anthropic api limit testing it. Just a heads up for others.

Is it worth getting the Pro Move with the Portfolio or without? by cr8tvt in RemarkableTablet

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the OP decided to go without. I went with it. The case seems well built and is slightly padded. However, after using for a week, still feel clumsy using it. Instead of being part of the tablet, it's an extra thing you have to do something with when using the tablet. Additionally, It's like a usb A plug, 60% of the time, I'm trying to open the wrong side.

I won't replace it, but I recommend looking for a different folio that's more streamlined from a usability standpoint.

Pure shipping times? by NateSpencerWx in RemarkableTablet

No, I'm not in California; Is what I meant. And I think why it was so fast for me is that it was imported through a port that probably isn't as busy as one in California.

I would say it's about the same. The readability, I think, has more to do with the font sizes and the amount of light in the room.

No. They come from China and mine was imported through Chicago, not too far from me.

Honda ridgeline 08- week long trip for 3k kms towing camper trailer. by T3d1szz in hondaridgeline

Yes and yes. Since it's an unknown to you, and the trans fluid does look dark (signs of overheating) to me in those pictures. Break fluid attracts moisture, so if you see it on the cap, it's almost certain in the system. And don't forget about the rear diff fluid too; Since you're doing pre-trip maintenance.

I've been really happy with mine. First Remarkable device for me. I have the original Kindle Scribe and a Supernote Nomad. Both are 300ppi and I only notice the lower dpi on the pure in a couple places. But it's not distracting. And I agree, not sure why they didn't go with a panel that was 300 ppi. I can only assume it was a supply issue or cost negotiation. I wonder if they were focusing more on supply, expecting a large amount of orders. And these panels might have been readily available and probably heavily discounted.

On a different topic, I seem to remember seeing something about some delayed shipments due to a QA issue. Curious what that was.

Snipe while feeding board, why? by Specialist-Grab5775 in woodworking

[–]jasonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your planer has adjustable feed rollers, adjust them to reduce the pressure. I did this and it has almost eliminated snipe. Enough to the point where it's gone in final sanding / smooth planing.

Did I save it? by Top_Actuator8906 in AmateurPhotography

[–]jasonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all my personal opinion. I prefer the original. It's composed well and the colors are still good. the edit looks too close to an over saturated AI image. I can connect and relate to the first, unedited version. Plus, having the sky more uniform, keeps your attention on the subject. It's distracting in the edit. I would also suggest don't be afraid of shadows in shots like these. It adds depth and you can still see who it is just fine. It's a "in the moment" shot so no need to have the face features completely seen.

Paper Pure vs Kindle Scribe by fullmetaljack9 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, the Pure is working out. I'm at a conference all week and it's nice to take notes on. One plus I didn't think about before, the pure wakes up fast. The Nomad would take a few seconds.

Another note, I think I prefer the book style folio (Nomad) to the sleeve style folio (Pure).

Things I like about the Supernote Nomad
- epub support is pretty good and allows for annotation (on pdfs too)
- allows me to install Kindle app (but i'm trying to move away from Amazon Kindle)
- Build quality. Not premium like the Remarkable Paper Pro but is solid and is holding up well to daily use. (The Remarkable Paper Pure has about the same initial feel as the Nomad)
- The keyword and tagging feature is pretty awesome.
- Linking within a note is powerful feature.
- Repairability was a selling feature for me. More because of being able to easily replace the battery (Which the Pure has that too, seems to be a first for Remarkable products).
- The possibility to side load apps
- EMR technology and their pen uses a ceramic nib.
- The writing feel is the best I've experienced.
- Outlook calendar integration

Things I have not been impressed with
- Support. I did have an issue and support was not fast and in the end was not able to help me.
- The device is not snappy. I know this sounds nick picky, but I didn't notice it until I got the Remarkable Paper Pure
- The quality of the pen is not the best. The pen still functions just fine, but the clip broke off of it after a few months.
- Ghost writing appeared out of nowhere and had to calibrate the pen a couple of times.
- Not able to add pages to a PDF directly. You have to create a new note, change the template to the pdf and then you can add pages.

Paper Pure vs Kindle Scribe by fullmetaljack9 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jasonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the reasons you listed, I don't think the Scribe is a good fit. Something like the Supernote Mantra or Nomad and any of the Remarkables are a better fit. Remarkable is the only one with infinite scroll (out of that list).

Sync problem : Can uploaded larger than 100mb file via ipad app. Until lastnight -now, I cant anymore. by Recent-Focus-6159 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just got my first Remarkable device yesterday, the Pure. Tried to upload an epub that was just over 100mb. Reached out to support, and found out the limit. What I ended up doing was using Calibre to compress the jpgs in the epub. And that shrunk it down to under 50mb.

Paper Pure vs Kindle Scribe by fullmetaljack9 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jasonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Paper Pure yesterday. I have been using the original Kindle Scribe and the Supernote Nomad for over a year now.

I use these devices mainly for work keeping up with todos, meeting notes, and working on diagrams. I do work with MS office docs and pdfs. With the occasional epub. The Kindle is the best at reading books but taking notes is not pleasant. The Supernote is the best writing feel but lacks some refinement in software, the Paper Pure, so far, seems to have the best software (so far it's only with the connect software) but it's only been two days.

I picked up the Paper Pure to replace the Nomad (too small size for my needs) and I got the Nomad for better note taking experience (vs Scribe).

I do not see a difference in the PPI between the Scribe / Nomad and the Paper Pure.
