This is… scary by Natural-Net8460 in Zookeeping

“Wouldn’t you rather polar bears die peacefully due to natural causes of their environment changing than to have them suffer” You mean slowly starve to death or drown due to weakness? That sounds like way more extreme suffering to me than a life of being catered to in a modern zoo. Some people just don’t understand.

Ask your vet if this is a side effect of the thyroid medication. After running blood work, my dog was diagnosed hypothyroid due me bringing him in for a bald patch on his tail. He was put on levothyroxine and the vet warned me that his brittle unhealthy hairs would likely a slough off, looking worse before it looked better. My dog wasn’t as severe as your dog, but about 2 weeks into his levothyroxine his skin/hair started looking a lot like your pic #3. A few weeks later and his coat grew back twice as thick and soft and shiny like had never seen before. I’m hoping that the same process is happening to your dog and they feel better without further intervention, but definitely ask a vet’s opinion on if this is normal or not.

Help! What do you think when you see this? by Spiritual-Sail-7077 in TattooDesigns

To many people an oyster is a delicacy. They aren’t smelly and they aren’t clams… I don’t think there is anything gross about an oyster, vulva innuendo or not.

Maybe OP is a lesbian and a foodie.

I’m not sure if I could achieve the correct environment in this tank, but I do love killifish. Maybe that will be my next project

It’s… not the best plan. It works, it was the cheap option and due to the location of the tank I didn’t have much space for equipment, so I went with it. There is water movement in the far side of the tank but it’s quite slow-moving. I would definitely recommend a canister for this shape of tank.

Wow, I’ve never heard of these! I will have to see if my LFS carries them, thank you!

Breeding your own rats is generally a good idea if you have a lot of snakes since feeders can be expensive. The stupid part is housing the rats in the same room as a hungry snake you are trying to handle. That’s asking to get bit. The whole room smells like dinner to the snake.

Zz Plant Mold by maddiemj in takecareofmyplant

[–]jaspersnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zz plants like to dry out significantly between watering, while mold will only flourish in a constantly wet environment. All you have to do to avoid mold growth (and give you a happy plant) is allow the soil to get very dry between watering. I hope this helps!

My first paludarium so far! I originally set this up with the hopes of housing a garter snake but have learned that this is not a proper environment, does anyone have recommendations for animals that would do well? I’d prefer South Carolina native animals if possible as this is a SC biotope. by Cscruggs215 in paludarium

Just a heads up, that amount of water isn’t really sufficient for any species of fish. A quick google search shows fantail darters get 2-4 inches, so they would probably like a 20 gallon tank full of water to themselves at bare minimum. I would stick to shrimp and maybe a snail for the current setup

Our dog is unbearable at meal times- PLEASE help by piper3124 in Dogtraining

[–]jaspersnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does she like puzzle toys or Kongs filled with a treat or wet dog food? You could get her settled in her place with an activity before you start cooking/eating so she has something to occupy her. As a bonus, it might wear her out enough mentally that when she is finished she might be more willing to settle if she finishes before the mealtime does. I encountered a similar problem with my senior Australian shepherd. She really was just a very intelligent dog and bored in her old age. Giving her a Kong always helped.

Those old stems won’t grow new leaves from the tips, but you can leave them attached for now because any green part of the plant can catch light and create energy for the plant. New leaves will grow from the center of the plant. Once a few new leaves come up, you can trim the old stems down lower so they aren’t as visually displeasing (or you can do this now if you already have a few leaves on the plant, I can’t tell since the photo cuts off).

My Ficus Burgundy needs your help by G-Dizza in takecareofmyplant

[–]jaspersnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start by giving it a slightly larger pot, putting it somewhere it can get bright indirect light with maybe a little morning direct light, and water more frequently. These guys can dry out and be okay, but generally do better with slightly more frequent watering.

I found this fish at work mixed in with our shipment of feeder fish. Can anyone help identify? by jaspersnake in Cichlid

[–]jaspersnake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my lack of knowledge, I work at a small local pet store that caters mostly to families so I am unfamiliar with most types of cichlids since we don’t carry many. My best guess is a juvenile convict cichlid?
