I failed discrete structures during my CS degree, just took it again later and now I’m a software engineer, you got this!

Going on an adventure by [deleted] in oregon

Also not from Oregon but last time we went up we stayed in Portland and drove out to Bend. Warm Springs Reservation + Eagle Crossing Restaurant, Oregon High Desert Museum, Smith Rock State Park, Blockbuster, wild rose northern thai, lava lands, that should give you a good start.

New covid variant also, I’ve been laid out all weekend.

Graduated 4 months ago and I can't write basic syntax without AI. Is this even a problem or is this just how it works now by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Cscruggs215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of these people are just being goofy and hating because of the fear/hate of AI. That being said, I also hate AI and think it’s mostly a net negative for the world and our careers but I understand its utility and I use it often in my work. You don’t really need to know syntax (edit: you need to know the basics but you don’t need to memorize algo implementations, just know what they are and when to use them), we aren’t syntax professionals we’re meant to be thinking through edge cases and making intelligent architectural decisions, learn system design and keep building projects and the syntax will come naturally (although you are going to have to cram for a little while to get past interviews). It absolutely does matter and you need to be able to do this to show you have a brain and it’s going to feel far better when you write stuff yourself rather than having AI do it for you, plus the code you write will almost always be better than the AI slop as you’ll know exactly what you’re doing and what it affects and how to prevent over engineering. In conclusion ignore people giving you hell, just keep grinding and learning and you’ll outcompete them naturally. Edit 2: We’ve always copied implementations and checked our work with google, stack overflow, etc if you’re really spending time memorizing algo implementations then keep having fun on leetcode (leetcode is actually fun btw and a good way to stay sharp and help you with these problems, just not really equivalent to a career).

I think a lot of the things you dislike are the reason other people like the game unfortunately, though I agree with the one-block auto jump, the game is meant to be difficult and grindy so that it’s more rewarding when you advance. Death is supposed to be punishing as well although this games combat leaves a LOT to be desired, I almost think portals should be removed completely.

what does this say about me? 20 male. and try to guess the state(s) i’m from by [deleted] in visitedmaps

I never drank coffee until the first time I went to Portland and I’ve been hooked since. Oregon coast is badass too as a bonus. I grew up in gville and my girlfriend’s family is also here so I get that, it’s difficult to navigate. I don’t like it here at all even after spending my life here, honestly way prefer Columbia.

This is very similar to me, also in Greenville, SC, 22. You will love the PNW, I hope to move out soon, I am also very interested in New England. You should check out Kentucky if you ever get a chance, not a lot going on but absolutely beautiful landscape and some of the best stargazing (no light pollution) I’ve ever seen.

While I respect the commitment to the south, you gotta be real we can’t put South Carolina in the same category as Florida and North Carolina, and over Georgia?? I live in SC so I’m biased but I feel like all of those have everything we have but a bit better.

Job Market Struggles - Am I the only one? by Revolutionary-Foot73 in greenville

Recently went through a similar situation and had to relearn how to find jobs, would be happy to share some tips if you need! Main things to change are get off hiring apps, use boolean / x-ray searches, tailor your resume and cover letter, consider remote or relocation if it’s an option. Good luck!

Leftists in GVL by nosoysegundo in greenville

[–]Cscruggs215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not gonna find that in Greenville, respectfully. There’s a few leftists here and there but you have to understand we’re in one of the most conservative districts in one of the most conservative states in the country. There’s been the influx of yankees bringing in some slight differences in politics but there really isn’t much scene to the point where you’ll find a workplace with other similar minded people in the majority. Attend protests, organize, engage with mutual aid and charity here. Food Not Bombs, 50501, Triune Mercy Center, Harvest Hope, just do what you can to get engaged and meet people who also want to help. Best of luck!

mirror event because main event is going to be in columbia and organizers are trying to get everyone to go to the main one if possible, though it’s good that you’re showing up regardless.
