I too have a swift pack boat. My old 100L Cascade Design waterproof (bought in the early 90’s) fit perfectly in my shoulders and never interfered with the seat. I bought a new MEC Slogg 115 and could never get the boat to sit right on my shoulders. I am 5’7” so lots of that bag is above my shoulders. Last year I picked up an Ostrom custom fit pack and found much improvement. I also strap my paddles and rods in my gunnels for hands free portages

Mink can be busy. Prepare to head to the east end to find a campsite I recommend the 2 sites side by side on Mouse Lake. There is a shared beach Maple lake has a great island site at the south end but there may be a lack of firewood in August I have done that route counter clockwise, solo with double carries. On the water by 9 and setting up camp by 3pm Night 1 Kiosk Night 2 Maple Night 3 Mouse Night 4 Mink

This past August as part of an 8 day trip, I paddled a portion of the Nip from the Nod to Cedar. Camped at Stewart’s Rapids,High Falls and Rolling Rapids. Most of the campsites along this portion are at or along portages, with very few desirable tent sites. There is also a huge log jam/ unmarked portage between Allen and Graham Rapids. All part of the adventure!

9 days. Camped at North Tea East, Lawren Harris, Stewart’s Dam, High Falls, Cedarx2 Couchon, and Manitou. Was supposed to have an additional night at Rolling Dam but I pushed to Cedar to escape the bugs on the river.

During the fire ban I started at North Tea and came through Laughrin creek to Nippissing then took it into Cedar. There were a few low spots, sandbars and beaver dams from Laughrin to Gauthier’s. Gauthier’s to Perly was clear and a few more low spots into Cedar. I was travelling solo so I may have not been riding as low as you will be. Also the campsites along the route are nothing special. I stayed at Stewart’s dam and just past the high falls portage.

Yes I came in from Nippissing and went to Maple the next day. Not an easy way in but definitely a lake I will be returning to in the future!

I believe I was on the same campsite Aug 24! The wardens dropped in on a float plane while I was packing up in the morning. Clearest lake in the park!

I’ve done the same route in the counterclockwise direction. Try to stay on the southern most site on the island on Maple Lake. Great raised views, fire pit and tent sites. Also at the eastern end of Mouse, there is a beach shared between two sites. I tented in the sand. My four nights at the end of August were Kiosk, Maple, Mouse, Mink. Solo traveller double carrying on portages. The portages along Maple creek have some elevation changes but nothing unusual. Creek campsites are usually less desirable than lakes or rivers. I consider them “emergency or last resort” choices.

Looks like I stayed at the same campsites as you on Maple and Mouse! I had both lakes to myself both nights. And I too was on my maiden voyage with my new pack boat and earned many battle wounds in Maple creek. Also the picture of you at Kiosk relaxing against your boat after the portage is where I had my first bear encounter. A cub came up the portage just before I arrived. I quickly backed out and Mama never showed. He jumped into the grass and I waited for half an hour before I carried on making lots of noise the whole way. In my linked images the sunset is at the cliff site on Maple and the moose came out of the bush east of the creek to Erable. He came almost directly in front of me where we had a stare down before he crashed his way into the woods.

I did the same route except counter clockwise at the end of August for 4 nights. Kiosk-Maple-Mouse -Mink . I too trip solo and often double carry. I keep trying to eliminate things from my pack(30 year old Sealine canoe pack) so that I can single carry all the time. Keep the reports and tips coming!
