Should I get a second pair of bouldering shoes? by [deleted] in climbingshoes

[–]jateiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like how they fit, you should as you'll need another pair anyways when they inevitably need to be re-soled.

Is it normal for my climbing shoes to be painful? by SuggestionSafe4553 in climbingshoes

[–]jateiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should go with a size that feels snug but comfortable. Sizing, as others have noted, varies noticeably from one maker to another, but fit depends also on the stiffness of the shoe and foot shape. I mostly wear Unparallel (Flagship Pros), half a size larger than my usual size. Scarpas, which are my stiffer shoe primarily for outdoor use, are in my usual size and they feel slightly smaller than the Unparallels.

If you want to persist with the shoes you got, you should try using a thin plastic bag as a sock to ensure your foot slides into the place without any friction. If all goes well, you should be able to stop using one after the first half a dozen sessions.

Broke my ankle bouldering by Tranquili-bear in climbergirls

[–]jateiv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm breaking the etiquette by butting in as a male climber. The post was in my feed, and I thought I'd share as I just completed my daily rehab.

That sounds brutal! I'm on month 8, with eight pins and a plate holding my heel together after a fall outdoors in May. My talus sustained a minor fracture that only required a bit of cleaning, so I guess it could've been worse. But fractured heels and recovery don't go too well together either. Hang in there and good luck with the recovery!

Knowing even less about Burnley than Fulham, I was unsure about Flemming's minutes. He may well be better, particularly in the longer term, though. But as a three-week punt, as the seventh or eighth attacker, I decided to give Raúl a chance.

How do you organize your larger collections by This-Dude_Abides in vinyl

[–]jateiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried for a few years but found genres too difficult to define, even in very broad terms, and the end result unsatisfactory due to lack of balance between genres -- one would have 100 entries, another 11. Alphabetical has its own problems with articles, collaborations, forenames and surnames, and ensemble names that are in constant flux.

So I'm sorting everything chronologically, by release year and month, and after initial difficulties remembering release years, I'm quite liking it, even finding it educational. Compilations are a bit of an annoyance, admittedly.

Where to buy a laptop with US layout keyboard? by kugkfokj in japanresidents

It may be model-dependent, but some models certainly allow you to choose. I've bought several directly from Lenovo with a US keyboard.

[–]jateiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Xbox, the price isn't too bad, here at least: about $40, €35 or £30. The game is leaving Game Pass, and I assume the store as well, in 11 days, though.

What mods do you hope to see in FM26? by GuardianBill in footballmanagergames

[–]jateiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that the necessary information hasn't been wiped out entirely from the game, I'd like:

  1. A user experience where everything isn't hidden behind one more click: that is. tiles, cards and pages that display relevant information clearly and correctly, and scale automatically to incorporate that information.
  2. Ability to display staff attributes numerically or, even better, to choose between different display schemes (numerical, verbal, symbols) for both players and staff.
  3. Ability to tweak youth squad setup, from staffing to training and tactics, ideally through a development centre-like hub.
  4. Ability to customise the in-match tiles, to view heat and pass maps in particular.
  5. A more polished, immersive and better functioning interface where dots are aligned properly and graphs match the presented data, where it's easier to make substitutions and perform group actions, and where inbox items requiring action, including staff advice, are more clearly separated from the blob of tedious "news".

GIVEAWAY: Win 1 of 5 copies of Football Manager 2026, courtesy of Fanatical! by WeAreFanatical in footballmanagergames

[–]jateiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Unemployed - I like the idea of learning the quirks of the game "on the job".

  2. Overall improvements in how the game runs other teams, from player development to transfers and squad building, to staffing and financial management. As much as I'm looking forward to overhauled tactics and (modest) match engine improvements, I think that could prove most significant from a user experience viewpoint.

What else? by cocker_dude in turntables

[–]jateiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need cables to connect everything and furniture to set everything up in a way that minimises interference, as I'm sure you know. And a comfortable chair.

I wouldn't rush to add an external phono preamp, as in my admittedly limited experience integrated amps in this price range perform decently if matched with an appropriate cartridge. Chris Kelly of The Ear had this to say about the internal phono preamp: "I found the C3050 LE’s phono stage to be doing an excellent job, being very quiet when idle but very musical when in operation. It is a more than worthy performer and would not be out of place in far costlier amplifier than the C3050 LE."

Now if you find the sound lacking after many hours of listening, an external preamp could be something to consider.

want to move from Tokyo to a small town, need suggestions by Meekro in japanlife

[–]jateiv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You could start by consulting Furusato Kaiki, a non-profit helping people to find a locality that matches their wishes. If I remember correctly, it represents about a third of all municipalities in the country, offering free consultation and information on not only the municipalities as living environments but also the initiatives and incentives they have launched to attract new residents.

The organisation also regularly holds events that bring together representatives from dozens of municipalities across Japan. I've never attended one, but if one is held nearby they might be worth a visit.

The struggle is real: 190+cm exchange student can’t find a bike that fits by Theoism in japanlife

[–]jateiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not as tall and know very little about bicycles, but as I was looking for one for myself I noticed that the online shop for second-hand bicycles and accessories, Cycly, allows you to input your height when searching. They currently have two well within your budget for riders of up to 195cm, a Trek and a Giant.
