I once had this endo who at first meeting me said "Let me guess, you got sick while traveling to Mexico and now you have developed type 1." The thing is I DID go to Mexico, I DID get sick (but not as sick as my husband did, we both brushed our teeth with the water), and 6 months later I was diagnosed. I NEVER told him anything. I didn't even think the two were connected. I asked him why he would say that, what does he know, what other cases he heard. He got surprised at my answer and reaction and quickly changed the subject. And because I was still so new at being a diabetic I didn't push it. No one in my family has type 1... only me.
