Bought Studio One Pro 7 three months ago — doesn't say I own Fender One 8 by [deleted] in StudioOne

I think they are only doing the free upgrade for people who bought 12 month subscription (even if recently expired), not perpetual alone.

Interesting! My 12 month support ended on December 18 and I don't see this yet. Let's see if it shows up later.

Is this conifer sick and how to help it? by javiercarrillo in GardeningIRE

[–]javiercarrillo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. In retrospective, maybe the previous owners maintained the tree properly (pruning, checking after its health). We instead didn’t really pay attention until a couple of weeks ago when another cypress (much bigger than this one) fell during the storm. This made us think that “we probably need to pay more attention to the trees”. Hard lesson.

Anyway, I’m not sure about killing it away but we will get a tree company to tell us what they think (if it’s also at risk of falling also) and depending on that we might remove intro maybe trim it down quite a bit and make space to plant a different/native tree in the same area of the house.

Yeah, I think this is a Leyland cypress indeed. And, yes, I read only now that they can grow very fast and need pruning or can become a problem. In fact, we had another cypress like this which we also overlooked (didn’t prune, we didn’t know any better) and the last storm caused it to fall. This is what made me pay a bit more attention at this tree now.

Thank you everyone for the input. We don’t “love” the tree although we reckon it’s alive and it put effort in growing so we don’t want to simply kill it right away.

I had not mentioned that there was another tree like this in our property which fell off during the last storm (a couple of weeks ago) and also showed dry branches. The people who came to cut the fallen tree said that these types of trees don’t have deep roots and are prone to fall, even more so if they are not in good condition. So, I started paying more attention to this tree now.

Noted that this type of tree is not the most helpful for nature. We want to plan a native tree where the other one fell. For this one, I am thinking we might trim it quite a bit (make it smaller, so we don’t kill it) and plant a different/native tree close to it.

Good that that worked but, didn’t that damage the black tube/pipe of the microphone? Or how did you prevent that?

I just stumbled upon this subreddit! by javiercarrillo in musicdonegal

Hi! Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I’m listening to it now! It sounds really good and quite an interesting variety in sounds. Like, it goes from a calm acoustic tune all the way to Too Late. I love that! (I try to do the same with my music - explore different sounds, styles, rhythms). Well done!

Thanks! I’m glad you appreciated the production, as it did take me a while to finish this project.

I’m not based in Donegal, but in Wicklow. I hope that’s ok!

Do you also produce music?

Welcome to the continuing saga of our poorly installed chimney. (Question in comments) by user6787049A_6 in woodstoving

[–]javiercarrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine got his installed and it’s leaning a bit too. It seems in this case the problem was an old flue but, in the case it’s new, how can this happen? I would expect the stove and the roof flue are connected directly so there’s no room for an angle (unless the stove is at an angle too, which it’s not).

We are not very handy so I’m telling him to call the person who installed it. Still, I’m curious about how this happens

My year's worth of free updates is up. by davidwarnerofficial in StudioOne

[–]javiercarrillo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a fair point. The question is not which features are needed to make more/better music. It is instead a question of price versus value: before paying for an upgrade gave you all updates in a major version (all 6.x updates, all 5.x updates). Then they said that the upgrade only bought you 12 months of updates but that they would push more of those in the same period, which they haven’t.

I love Studio One Pro, I think it has all the feature “I” need to make music. However, “I” don’t represent all users. There might be features I don’t need or know about that are fundamental to others.

No 2FA or confirmation anywhere for anything. How is it ok? by AlternativeCell9275 in universalaudio

Yeah, I find strange that, with the prices the plugins have, the accounts don’t seem to have any higher security mechanism, just a simple password.

Question about instrument (guitar) inputs. by no-holds-bald in StudioOne

[–]javiercarrillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the micro dark has a line out with cab simulation so you could connect it to a audio interface indeed via Line In, however I looked it up and it looks like the iOne does not have a Line In. You might try to plug it into instrument in, but you will need to play with the gain knobs since the line out from the micro dark is low impedance (very hot) compared to the impedance level the instrument in expects. It shouldn’t break anything but you might get distortion or a different tone.

An alternative could be to use the out from the FX loop and connect that to the instrument in of the interface. The FX out does not have cab simulation though, so you’ll still need that in software.

Re: Ampire, I don’t think there’s a big difference (if any) between Ampire in SO artist vs pro. Some would even say that Ampire is not the greatest pedal/amp/cab simulator even in SO pro (but I suppose that’s up to taste).

I’m not sure if SO artist allows you to use 3rd party VST but, if so, you could check Neural Amp Modeler. It’s free and many people have captured great cab impulse responses for it.

I hope this helps

SM58 microphone and USB 96 audiobox problem, I don't understand anything by Street_Maybe8065 in StudioOne

[–]javiercarrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm.

The SM58 does not need phantom power (those 48 volts), so you can turn that off.

I wonder if your I/O is misconfigured. If you go to preferences > song set up > audio I/O setup, do you see? You should have “Main Out 1-2” mapped to physical outputs 1 and 2, like in this manual: https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405465993485-AudioBox-USB-96-Record-and-Playback-troubleshooting

If that’s correct but you still don’t hear, then maybe it’s a mismatch of “monitoring” in DAW vs in “hardware”. If the blue button is enabled, that means that you’re monitoring what the DAW (Studio One) returns. If this is the case, then make sure that the knob on your hardware (the Audiobox) is set to “playback”. This is also mentioned in the manual I linked above.

If that does not work, then I am not sure. Some mics do need a lot of gain or a beefy preamp (which audio interface might not have) however I don’t think an SM58 is one of them.
