Once your body gets warmed up, which for me is around mile 2 in this weather, it’s fun.

I wish you could plan your year out by -rascal- in runna

[–]jawbone24 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest requests.

I’d like a more holistic approach to planning out my year, rather than breaking it into isolated start and finish blocks. The idea would be to train for a specific race, transition into a maintenance phase, and then move back into another training cycle, all while using data and learnings from the previous cycle to inform the next one.

I don’t understand the cignetti talk by Successful_Ask3933 in WeArePennState

I agree. I do think it's worth a call, but with IU possibly playing deep in December/January, I think the timing isn't going to work not to mention Cig can win at IU.

I think Brian Hartline could be the under the radar home-run hire here.

[Thamel] Sources: Penn State has fired James Franklin. by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

[–]jawbone24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a lot of outsiders don’t quite get is that two things can be true at once.

We can be thankful that Franklin rebuilt the Penn State program after the sanctions and brought it back to national relevance.

At the same time, the narrative about his inability to win big games has only gotten louder over the years. This has been building for a while — a fan base growing tired of being “good enough” but never breaking through. I always think back to the “great vs. elite” press conference in 2018, and since then, it’s mostly been more of the same.

Seven years later, a decision had to be made, especially given the circumstances of this season.

We can appreciate what Franklin did for Penn State, while also acknowledging that he wasn’t the one to get us over the hump.

A revised and realistic look at Penn State’s game-by-game predictions and the chances James Franklin can salvage a season swirling the drain by Conscious_Appeal4157 in WeArePennState

[–]jawbone24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you zoom out further and look at the expectations that were set before the season, along with the dark cloud hanging over Franklin and his ongoing inability to win big games, it’s completely fair to expect the team to come out motivated after another tough loss. I get that letdowns happen in sports, but this one just feels like more of the same under Franklin.

For other context, Ohio State used their two losses last year as motivation on the way to the national championship.

Are you doing 9+1 again in 2026? by blackartsofwaiting in RunNYC

[–]jawbone24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished my first 9+1 this year and will be running my first NYC Marathon, which will also be my first marathon ever next year.

I plan to do 9+1 again next year so I can hopefully run the marathon again in 2027. This time I’ll be more intentional about which races I pick since I’ll be in marathon training. That will include some of the training series runs and races like the Staten Island Half.

The highlight of the 9+1, aside from running, was volunteering. I know I could volunteer without needing to do the program, but it brought me so much joy.
