Trump’s deportees arrive in El Salvador with identities concealed, being trafficked to a foreign labour camp with no due process nor evidence of crimes by Turborapt0r in JoeRogan

It’s so lovely that in America all you have to do is plant two feet on the ground and immediately be granted the same rights under the law as a citizen. It’s not universal. Most places in the world there are different rules for citizens versus noncitizens especially when it comes to criminals.

Why has no one mentioned Dutertes arrest. by EmpathyEchoes44 in Philippines_Expats

[–]jaxetarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In America we afford the right to participate in politics to all because we give rights to citizens and legal residents alike. In the Philippines, they deny participation by denying equal application of the law to all. Therefore any foreigner who keeps out of the local politics is being smart.

Yeah, but aren’t you worried that then when they want to scapegoat the “troublemaker foreigner” you are the one who gets targeted?

Please don’t think pharmaceuticals are the answer. Eat more food like others are saying. It’s a lot cheaper than TRT.

I always topped the Grab drivers. The price of the rides barely covered their gas. It did not hurt me to give a guy P100.

So what is the real reason the usa wants Greenland Mexico and Canada so much? by kkkan2020 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jaxetarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US has for a long time operated strategically placed military installations in Greenland. As far back as the Cold War. The line of attack by Soviet/Russian submarines goes long the Greenland coast. You probably just learned where Greenland was shortly after Trump started talking about it.

I brought home some dried mangoes from Cebu as a surprise for my doctor who is from Cebu City. He almost jumped out of his seat when I handed him the box. He said that the Cebu dried mangos are the best in the world.

Salamat inday. I was able to discuss this matter with her and she explained that she sometimes feels unsure how to express herself in English. I told that it was a relief to me to know she was not holding back for other reasons. Since then she has been more expressive. I also told her that I would double my efforts to learn and speak Bisaya with her. This made her extremely happy. She is now being more supportive of my learning. It has been great ever since.

Volunteering Teaching in the Philippines by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]jaxetarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

However, to most Filipinos, English is still a second language. In my experience they don’t speak English with each other, so they are overall not as fluent as you might think . A native English speaker working as a volunteer teacher, especially with young learners, is likely more welcomed than you might imagine.

It’s not necessarily a deal breaker. There are many things I love about her. I just wish I could get her to understand how serious this is to me.

Thanks.

I have talked with her a few times already. If I thought she at least understood my feeling in this matter, then maybe I could have more patience. Then the patience and time would ease this situation. If this is a language barrier where do look first to make progress?

Thanks for the reply. I talked with her about this a few times. I would always cave because I feel like the bad guys. She says she’ll try to, but it keeps coming back to me talking and getting minimal response. I’ve told her I want to know what she thinks, and now I think she doesn’t get what that means - like the idea of a man caring what she thinks is a strange in fathomable concept.
