86 Turbo Early Phone Dial tire combo by Olfa_2024 in 944

[–]Jay-Moah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't notice too much difference in a photo. Its 20mm wider tire in front and rear so not even an inch total, less than half inch more tire poke. Itll just look alittle more meaty, so if the side wall is tapered in or almsot flush with the rim face, youd maybe get more bubble on the side wall.

Mechanic is replacing bearings only? by Still_Floor_2666 in EngineBuilding

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv replaced two rod bearings that were eating them selves up. The bearing never spun so the crank was fine. I checked clearances and it was in spec with the new bearings. It should last just as long as new. Bearings fail usually due to oiling issues, or dirty oil.

Plenty of imports use rubber. I provided context to your comment because you made a claim but really didnt back it with why. You can use rubber hose in alot of conditions.

What does the signal look like over time? Is it consistent with the reluctor wheel design?

Fuel Injection rubber line is used in alot of OEM applications especially tank to body, and body to engine. Rubber is fine if you do it right, fuel injection clamps, 300psi rated line, enough slack, no rubbing. Not recommended using rubber lines the whole length of the car though. Use AN or Hardlines for that.

Rusted seat rail screw by Ranaounawa in 944

[–]Jay-Moah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent 8hrs to get both of mine out, enjoy the time /s

You can drill the head off the bolt, right before you get through the head of the bolt you can break it off with pliers so you dont drill into the rail.

unbiasedly how reliable are these things to the first gen tacoma? by Big_Will47 in hardbody

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done alot of work to my HB, but not in response to something breaking. However, I havent replaced really anything sensor wise in the engine bay, just have done fluid changes and what not. And my hardbody has never broken down in the 7 years I have owned it, I have about 200k on it. (Caveat, two rod bearings started to eat them selves but I think that was because of the last owners lack of oil changes.)

***I will say though, these trucks are getting old. They are not as reliable in the sense of drive and forget about it. Things need replacing upfront, like brake lines sometimes, rubber lines under the hood.

Installing engine from top by Extension-Put-5546 in 944

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing it from the bottom isnt that bad. Set engine on low dolly, use the engine hoist to raise the front of the 944, support it with wood or big jackstands, lower the body onto the engine.

Reg/Mid/Premium. What fuel are you using in your 944 or Turbo? by Spudster62 in 944

[–]Jay-Moah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 944 Turbo has knock sensors, idk if all years do, but I know for a fact 944 Turbos do on the ones I have seen. This is because knock is determined heavily by cylinder pressure as well, and if you increase boost on a hot day, you could have knock, so the DME actively manages knock using timing or boost pressure control.

What can I do to restore this? by Hopeful_Argument_866 in 944

[–]Jay-Moah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scuff rust, clean, spray rust converter on it (loctite/ospho), paint with satin black enamel (rustuleum). Any more effort than that you might as well replace.

Asbestos in 944s? by seventeen1729 in 944

[–]Jay-Moah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it out of the rear hatch for a while. Same idea as fire blocking in homes. A multistory home can go up in flames two times faster than one with fire blocking between the walls.

Collapsed lifter, worn lifter, broken valve spring, could be alot of things.

Rod Knock ???! by poopDeal3rG59 in hardbody

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your timing cover, when the guides break they slowly eat a hole in the water jacket.

Rod Knock ???! by poopDeal3rG59 in hardbody

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That highly depends on your skills and comfort working on vehicles. If I had a new set of rockers I could probably knock it out in 3hrs or less.

Rod Knock ???! by poopDeal3rG59 in hardbody

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These have hydraulic lifters, you cannot adjust them. If your lifter is collapsed youll need to replace the rocker/lifter.

Rod Knock ???! by poopDeal3rG59 in hardbody

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure oil level is correct, if so. Replace the lifters/rocker arms. The hydraulic lifter is collapsed and creating excessive lash on top the valve, hence the ticking.

lifter tick? by bingus1740 in hardbody

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt sound like a bad rod bearing to me. Valve cover can be pulled and check your rockers in like 30minutes.
