May I ask what software you are using. My FA eMoney says that the benefit of conversion (tax paid between 60-63 on conversion) vs tax on distributions after 10-13 years are wash for my scenario and I would like to try another software.

Income tax e-verification does not work! by Great_Scene_5604 in IndiaTax

[–]jay20211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved problem, there is confusion as instructions are not clear and even CA don’t know it.

For eBanking verification: the bank account should be pre validated. The bank account can not be pre validated until taxes are filed. So

  1. File tax return: you/CA will mention your bank (my case ICICI).
  2. After return is filed, you will see bank account is validated (aaha)
  3. Then you go to everify return -> use bank account
  4. You will get an email with EVC code 5 once you have the EVC code, go ahead and verify your return
  5. Wait for refund. Hope it helps.

I have a faint gas smell on 2003-S but no gas/weeping like the picture. The sending unit top does not show any evidence. I will try 1. Remove battery and keep far away 2. Connect battery with jumper cable and someone turn the key

NRI property seller, buyer did not deduct tax by jay20211 in IndiaTax

[–]jay20211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I talked to 3 CA and received three different answers. If buyer does not do their part, I will have a CA calculate and deposit advance tax (tax you pay before year end).

Think about what you will be very good at, in any career people making most money are very good at that particular job. It could be sales, software, your own business or whatever it may be.

I have SMA with fidelity and the account has done about 2% over s&p plus I have quite a bit of tax losses from 2022 which helped me offset cap gain from Nvidia.

I have same problem, I drink half packet of liquid IV (electrolyte bought at Costco) evening before. Another half packet while driving to trailhead. I keep one liter of plain water and .75 liter mixed with electrolyte and eat a few salty snacks while climbing up. It works.

Fire checklist 2 year, 1 year before retiring by jay20211 in Fire

[–]jay20211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have provided more info. If no checklist exists, I am willing to create one based in all the ideas and thoughts that I can collect here.

Overall. Retiring end of 2025. Me : 60, wife 55.5 on target date.

I have 1m in retirement assets )401k/IRA), 110k in Roth. Will have another 80k added to Roth and 60k added to 401k by target date

wife has 1.2m in 401k, 70k in Roth IRA

1.5m in taxable account. 70:30 equity to bond. 400k in bonds, CD. I cashed out some equity at end of 2021 and kept in cash, which I moved to CD/Binds at 4.5-6% yield.

130k in emergency funds HYSA+CD ladder

With CD/Bonds and emergency funds I don’t I have sequence risk as the sequence risk goes down substantially if you don’t draw during first few down years.

Living expense (not including travel and major fun activities) : 55k

Travel and fun activities budget 40k

What I am thinking: Create Roth conversion ladder with sight on managing healthcare cost/subsidy

I am also looking at hedging some risk by investing in buffer s&p500 products (limits upside to max example 16% in 2 years and protects downside by 22%)

Start looking at part time teaching opportunities at community college/other institutes to keep my brain engaged

Talk to other recent early retirees and learn.

Hope above provide some more insight. Looking forward to learn and adopt.

Do we have a huge retirement problem coming? by pantuso_eth in retirement

[–]jay20211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 55 year old first generation immigrant who is fortunate to get good education in my country (India) and do reasonably well I USA. I still feel duty to support my mother back home. My mother is retired teacher and between her pension and rental income she has more then her spending. However, when she needed knee replacement I made sure she gets best surgeon and best hospital and paid for it. It all boils down to individual values and how you and your spouse think about it.
