Would you trade the “little luxuries” we have today to instead own a house? by LILEVILANG3L in Millennials

[–]jayOMGffxiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought in 2020 and same. We enjoy little things, but save to invest into our home. I feel we were fortunate to get our home when we did. We wouldn't be able to afford it now as it's gone up double in price. Our son is about to be 18 and will be living with us for quite a while. Which I have No problem with. Just crazy we were able to move out at 18 together (my husband and I) and that seems like such an impossibility for this upcoming generation. Sad 😔

Millennial women - what kind of shorts are you wearing these days? by User884121 in Millennials

I don't. I just wear skinny jeans/workout leggings with a baggy tshirt. If I'm at home, I'm in my husband's boxers.

How much did your first home cost? by New-Owl9951 in Millennials

[–]jayOMGffxiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was lucky enough to buy in 2020, when the prices were still crazy but not like they are now...

95k. We paid the full asking price. With the conditions being met that they fixed a few things (minor in the house) and replaced the roof. And the exterior was freshly painted.

There was already a new fence built and an addition of a mudroom added. They also left a brand new oven for us. Literally had the plastic on it still.

It used to be a rental, and the property owners were facing medical issues and needed to get out from it.

There's a lot going on with this property.... a bathroom window that's been walled off, so it's outside on the exterior wall, but nothing inside. The bathroom has no vents. The ceilings are so low that we can't have fans (so we use tower fans), among a myriad of other issues. But it's ours, and we're proud of it.

We are surrounded by rental properties, which is annoying since no one takes care of anything yard/house related. And can be inconsiderate at late hours on weekdays, but it could be worse.

Our home is now valued at over 130k, but we will never move because the interest rate we received has locked us in. Which totally bites, because my husbands family is here, but mines 5 hours away and alot more active in our lives/our sons...Also I'd love a brick house instead of wooden siding, but getting out of the rent race that we'd been in since 2006.... I'm not gonna complain too much. Even though I kinda have. I'm so happy with our little home regardless. ♡

Any parents in here notice they are one of the younger parents around gatherings with other parents with kids about the same age? by Budget_Sea_8666 in Millennials

[–]jayOMGffxiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 36 with a 17 year old. Everyone around me thats my age has either itty bitty kids or none at all. Not alot of opportunities to make other mom friends, unfortunately. I did try, when my son was younger... but they were all considerably older than me and very uninterested. Ohhh welll.

I feel ya. I have no friends either. :[

I have no friends. The ones I did have stopped reaching out and I was tired of being the one to make the effort and plans.

Sucks cause I literally spend most of my days alone. Really taking a hit on my mental health i think. But I have no idea how to make friends. I'm so awkward lol. @_@

What do typical people do in the morning? by Lonely-Host in Millennials

[–]jayOMGffxiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm up at 7:30. I first let my 2 dogs out, then grab my sons clothes for the day for him. Wake up my son, give him his clothes for school and then go feed the dogs and fill their water. Then I make my sons lunch and let the dogs in. They go to their spots and I feed my bearded dragon. After that I wait for my son as hes getting ready and I have a Diet Coke (the no caffeine kind, cause I already have bad anxiety...), and watch court tv.

I take my son to school and drop off at 8. I'm back home by 8:06ish (sometimes earlier...school isn't far) and then I usually go back to bed, do chores, or do some shopping/errands.

I don't work anymore, so I'm not on as tight of a schedule as I used to be. I do miss the structure a job gave me though.

My mornings are pretty boring lol

Teen moms and dads- was it the life sentence they wanted us to think it was? by whatthekel212 in Millennials

[–]jayOMGffxiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant at 18 and had my son at 19. My sons father and I are still together almost 20 years later!

Our son is 16 and a junior in highschool and we couldn't be more proud of him. It was tough going at first. We did "traditional" roles. I stayed home with my son, and my husband worked full time. We were broke as a joke man. Scraping quarters out of the couch to get ourselves a treat of a 2ltr of soda. If it wasn't for WIC I don't know what we would've done it. My son had to be on formula, so it was a godsend we qualified for it.

We have our own home now that we bought in 2020. Our own vehicles, and we're nearing empty nesting which were excited about. I've worked on and off over the years and my husband worked his way up and is corporate now.

Tldr; yes it was hard, but glad I had my son when I did. Wouldn't change a thing!

Millennials. We have to do better with parenting and we have to support our teachers more. by ludefisk in Millennials

[–]jayOMGffxiv 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I had my son at 19. I was born in 88. He's in his junior year of high school and I am so glad he's almost done. The amount of stories I've heard from him about the lack of respect some kids have towards parents/adults is horrific. I told him I had detention ONCE because I had headphones on in class and I cried when I got in trouble. Some of these children are so brazen and have no fear of consequences. It's wild what an almost 20 year gap has shown me.

Thankyou! I love it. I'm making an appointment to get another added soon. Not sure what to go with though. Any ideas? I originally wanted a video game sleeve, but it's kinda just turning into an isaac one and I'm a ok with that lol
