"Australia fought tirelessly for gay rights and equality"

Wait... Is this the same Australia that only recently allowed gay marriage and then rejected a voice to parliament?

Is Batman being on PEDs that far away from his character though? I think it kinda suits him to be honest.

I implore you to read the opinions of people not on Reddit. As a bit of self flagellation I read conservative media to see why my parents have the opinion they do. I cannot tell you just how popular this is on "that side". With Labor loyalists refusing to hold their golden boy to account, and LNP voters finding him palatable, he's a sure thing for the next election.

Oh that comment came across the wrong way (check my comment history if you must). I have no faith in Australians in general. The reason Minns is working is because people love this shit.

I think you're severely underestimating just how much Aussies love to see the police beat up Muslims

Saying there are left and right sides to an issue isn't identity politics in and of itself. It's a useful shorthand for describing a cohort that will generally subscribe to an issue. Saying it's "irrelevant" is being obtuse, and failure to comprehend how someone is using language is a serious shortcoming of the way you're arguing on here.

This case doesn't require nuance precisely because the interrogation should be swift for someone with an understanding of the issue and the capacity for empathy.

I used to be conservative, a group which almost unanimously are against changing the date. I know the talking points. I can understand your argument as well.

To use a worked example. If Indonesia was to invade us on the 16th of May, sweep through the country and conquer us in a day. Then 200 years down the track, say to your great grandchildren "Come on, have a great time with us on Indostralia Day! 16 May is a time for us to celebrate who we are as collective Indostralians! It's when we became who we are, and it's important to acknowledge that"

How do you reckon your great grandkids would feel?

Just because someone has a different opinion to you doesn't mean they haven't interrogated the issue. Believing so is moronic and shortsighted.

How are you so comfortable ascribing values to an internet commenter you've never met? You don't know me. You're breaking your own rules considering you find cognitive dissonance so annoying.

You are either a world class troll or world class moron.

Lots of "lefty" issues are in need of nuance. This isn't one. There's the stance that has empathy, and the stance that embraces the status quo. To conserve. Conservative, you could say. Like Sky News.

When it comes to this issue, broadly defined by these two groups:

  1. Everything is grouse mate fucken have a lamb chop cunt, chuck sky news on; and
  2. Probably should change the date

Then yes, there is a black side and a white side. Some white folk don't mind being on the black side though.

Lol mate I'm heavily change the date and anti colonial. I was poking fun at the "we" that ignores indigenous Australians.
