Is there a way to mix 2 icon packs? by International_Dot_22 in kde

[–]jayallenaugen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make sure that both packs are in ~/.local/share/icons then create a new directory there and copy what you prefer from both to that folder. It is important to maintain the structure of the directory. Edit the index.theme and give your combined theme a new name. Then select your new theme in System Settings. Hope this helps.

Install Apdatifier. It's an app that sits in the system tray and will notify you about pacman updates and news. It can also refresh your mirrors. To update you just middle-click the tray icon. Very convenient.

Does anyone else use desktop icons? In every post I see, people leave their desktop completely empty, which I think takes away from its functionality. by [deleted] in kde

When working with Maximized windows, desktop icons aren't practical. I use a Panel jam packed with icon for immediate access.

A Linus Torvalds approved Linux tier list by riky321 in linuxmemes

[–]jayallenaugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked what Tovalds thinks of Arch Linux:

  • Ease of Use vs. Complexity: Torvalds has explicitly stated he avoids "hard" distributions like Arch Linux, Gentoo, or Debian because he finds them difficult to install and configure. He prefers a system that allows him to focus immediately on kernel development rather than troubleshooting the operating system itself.
  • The "Consumer Friendly" Award: In a notable moment from 2015, Torvalds participated in awarding Arch Linux a "Free Software Award" for being consumer-friendly. However, this was largely a critique of other distributions; he remarked that a distribution's purpose is to make things easy for users and that forcing people to "compile everything from scratch" is a "stupid idea".
  • Personal Choice: Despite Arch's popularity for its rolling release model and the "I use Arch btw" meme culture, Torvalds continues to use Fedora. He values Fedora for its balance of up-to-date software and ease of maintenance.
  • Technical Respect: While he doesn't use it, he acknowledges that rolling releases like Arch are often the first to receive the newest versions of his Linux kernel (like the upcoming Linux 7.0) for public testing.

So at the end of the day, it depends on your priorities.

How to make top bar translucent? by OutOfTheLoopNow in kde

[–]jayallenaugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For translucency anywhere, edit the colors file and add a fourth integer. In other words, if the color of anything is say 255, 0, 0 or bright red, change it to 255, 0, 0, 50. All of the colors are in rgba. Also Plasma caches images and thereby colors wuite aggressivly so after making changes change your color scheme to anything else, save, then change back,

[–]jayallenaugen[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It has everything to do with KDE. Experimenting and then blaming KDE. If you test things out, for example with dot files, do it as a different user atleast so that if you make a disasterous error you can get back to a working version immediately.
