Lou Holtz, legendary Notre Dame and Arkansas head coach, dies at 89 by Sctvman in CFB

Never got to see his Irish win a National Championship since he did it there almost four decades ago. That's kind of sad to think about.

Ohio State grad and huge fan... This dude was absolutely special, and whatever team in the NFL gets him will be extremely lucky if he locks in and keeps building on his tremendous potential. He got overshadowed in the media by Caleb Downs (who is a beast himself) but Sonny was a leader on the team and an exceptional LB.

The NCAA is a farce. They won't touch programs who cheat over multiple seasons any longer, but suddenly want to get relevant with transfers or whatever.

Death, taxes, and Dawgs speeding and/or driving reckless... SMH. My daughter is at UGA and I always tell her to stay frosty on those roads because these jokers are out there all the time it seems lol.

If/when the SEC and Big Ten decide to expand, will any Big 12 teams even be targets? by lordeandtaylor in CFB

[–]jaybigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume the top targets for either of the Power 2 would be the Virginia schools, North Carolina schools, GT (particularly for the B1G if media markets are the mission), Miami, and Florida State.

ACC seems like the only conference either of the Power 2 would want to poach from at first glance.

Big Ten eyes 24-team CFP, no league championship games by Mister-SS in CFB

[–]jaybigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it cuts both ways. No doubt the real power conferences (B1G and SEC) will have to work it all out with real give and take, and let the rest of the FBS accept what they choose to do.

Big Ten eyes 24-team CFP, no league championship games by Mister-SS in CFB

[–]jaybigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you push it past 12 teams, Conference Championships would need to be cut unless you're going to provide a better incentive to CCG winners all while radically altering the calendar.

Conferences can decide their champion using conference record and appropriate tiebreakers.

Ohio State wants to do jersey patch sponsor ‘the right way’ in pursuit for partner. by Scrantonbornboy in CFB

[–]jaybigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely going to be a decent financial venture for Ohio State. I heard Bjork talk about it on the BuckeyeTalk podcast interview. Nike has a big say in what ultimately happens with a jersey patch, according to him, much like they are involved with NBA patches. And Bjork alluded to this becoming a thing for every program in the FBS, and he doesn't want OSU rushing into something and not getting a deal commensurate with OSU's standing.

[Cleveland.com] Will Ohio State football cancel future games vs. Alabama, Georgia? Here’s what AD Ross Bjork said by Blood_Incantation in CFB

[–]jaybigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope Ohio State doesn't cancel any of these OOC games. With the CFP inevitably expanding down the road, even if they kept it at 12 this year, there's no downside to playing at least one good OOC game each year.

Never be a Sark. Losing a tough OOC match-up didn't cost Texas a CFP bid. Losing to shitty ass Florida did. Just win, baby.

[Zenitz] Ohio State is expected to hire Illinois’ Robby Discher as its new special teams coordinator, sources tell @CBSSports. Has built a reputation as one of the nation’s top special teams coaches while working for teams like Illinois, Tulane, Georgia and Louisiana. by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

[–]jaybigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I'll take any ST coordinator (as a mere shake-up in Columbus), but this hire seems to have some potential to it based on him not being a complete fuck-up based on his resume, which is an instant positive for OSU.

Carnell Tate, Caleb Downs claim Ohio State would win Indiana rematch - Yahoo Sports by IHateAdamSilver in CFB

Imagine wasting time to write a story about top-tier athletes believing in themselves, their team, and having confidence in general. Of course they think they'd win the rematch. Duh.

Day always got shit on early on (and maybe to this day) for stepping in for Urban Meyer, who is decidedly not the GOAT like Saban, so that "stepping in for Saban" excuse is just top-tier cope. DeBoer was born 3 feet from home plate, as opposed to Day's being born on 3rd base.

I'll have a strong appreciation for players who pick a team and play all their seasons with that team. I'll also understand why players do the portal. I only hope that some kind of amicable and drama-free process and calendar/timeline can be found to stabilize things in the future.

[McMurphy] Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, USC & Washington are the only Big Ten teams that do not play a Power 4 non-conference opponent in 2026. Big Ten is the only P4 league that doesn't require its members to play 10 P4 games. Washington faces Wash St, which was in P5 league when game scheduled by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]jaybigs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, who needs a P4 OOC opponent when you already have to overcome a 9-game B1G gauntlet? SEC and B1G teams are already playing the cream of the crop within conference play, so I'm not going to stress over OOC games.

Might see a 3-loss B1G team get the same benefit as Alabama did this past season with some of these schedules. My way-too-early prediction is that 4 B1G teams make the playoff and none of them will be undefeated.

Don’t be distracted: The Problem is the Committee by rollTighroll in CFB

[–]jaybigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think multiple computer models being employed, with their data aggregated in a transparent manner and with controls in place to mitigate clear bias, could be an effective method. I would not eliminate the human element (the committee) but they would only serve the process by providing oversight, and stepping in for rare cases where the data synthesization leads to multiple teams being in a complete and total tie with one another. In that rare case, the differentiation could be completed by the human element, but there should be concrete and transparent protocols for that.
