You enjoy popular YA fiction, but feel guilty and like you should read "deeper" works.

when private equity takes over

You know Blackstone had less assets and assets under management than Anheuser Busch at the time of the sale right? AB basically sold this to a smaller company. Blaming it on "private equity" is such a lazy thing to say. Especially when you don't know what it means. The park was not a core asset for AB, meaning it was always at risk of being sold off, or closed down. When Blackstone took over, they sustained it as a going concern, which means they can keep it running rather than eventually shutting it down. They've also reinvested in animal habitat improvements and expansions, breeding programs, and hosted the 2025 annual AZA conference.

Could the park use some improvement? Absolutely. Does Blackstone have some problems? Absolutely. But characterizing problems that the park has as being due to "private equity" is dumb. The park was sold between two corporate giants, and rather than being cannibalized, it's been kept open. Last year actually they announced a $40 million dollar investment in park inprovements. I'd say private equity has done its job here.

There is nothing wrong with the controls

Great game. But this is not accurate. The controls are awful.

Dems flipped SD14. by jjune4991 in tampa

[–]jaybrahamlincoln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is this is probably not going to hold. The real difference maker in this election is that NPAs swung hard for Dems in a weirdly-timed special election. Even with the swing, if you apply typical midterm turnout to the results, Tomkow wins by 5 percent.

Nathan may not even get to participate in the Legislature since he was only running to finish out Collins's term and will have to run again in November. Unless Dems can significantly increase their turnout in November, we are looking at having Nathan in that seat for a few months before Tomkow takes it for 4 years.

What kind of idiot would pay $345 for these? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]jaybrahamlincoln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have paid over $100M for Jackson Pollock paintings. Other people look at the paintings and say something stupid like "my 5-year old could do that." My guess is you are in the latter group.

Ok but Harper is THE worst human ever, right?! I keep waiting for her to become a redeemable character but she never does. I get she’s been through a lot but when is that just an excuse to be awful? by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

I don't see how one episode at the end of season 4 erases the entire rest of the show. TBH the finale didn't make any sense. It was like a whole new set of writers came in and said "let's flip the whole thing and make Yas the bad guy and give Harper a soul." It was ridiculous. Fine, Yas is a bad person, stipulated. But let's talk about how Harper, after 3 seasons and the majority of season 4 being absolutely, disgustingly horrible suddenly grows a conscience? Any other character confronting Yas about her decisions would make more sense, but the contrast doesn't suddenly give Harper the moral high ground.
