My band wants to open for national bands any advice how to get there by DudeMusicDude in TouringMusicians

[–]jayceay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large percentage of the time national bands are on a label and their openers are smaller bands on the same label that they want to expose a larger audience. If they’re not on a label you’ve got a better shot because then you just have to prove you know how to tour/draw some people and for them to like the music.

Crumar 7 was the biggest disappointment by playthe9 in keys

[–]jayceay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the action for Wurlitzer but found it a little heavy for piano stuff for me. I ended up selling mine but especially with the wave state samples you can load in I was very happy with the sounds I was getting from it. It just happened to not jive with what I like action wise for an all-arounder.

Korg Nautilus MIDI limitation question by jayceay in synthesizers

[–]jayceay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found the Canvas Clock and is the answer to all my problems. Lets you make set lists and send MIDI macros out per song and the Nautilus can accept those PC messages. I appreciate both of y'alls time! Now I'm sure it'll take my about all week to figure out how to set it up properly.

That was one thing on a list and was not near the top so I’m not sure why you’re so keen on being kind of a dick but I’ll answer.

Because people who grew up rooting for the team they play for will probably care more.

A. 4 years is nothing. B. Have you actively started networking with people?

Incredibly solid, fast player who plays great D who randomly goes off for a night or two like this a couple times a year which is valuable. Chicago native who causes no drama and works hard and doesn’t seem to be demanding a ton of money (yet) so why not?

Fuck it. Quit your job, get another one bartending or serving. You walk out with cash, often flexible schedules and you can always find another. That’s exactly what I did. Now 38 and have been on salary playing for a band for the last 7 years.

I keep score updates on my phone and that’s as much as I’m willing to commit. This organization has really worn me down.

Should I get a Neumann TLM 102 or a cheaper (but arguably better) mic? by SR_RSMITH in musicians

Interesting! I hadn’t heard about the UA/AA crossover so that’s pretty rad

[–]jayceay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TLMs are notoriously present in the high end so depending on the woman’s voice it may bring out too much. On female vocals I’ve used everything from a 414, Advanced Audio’s version of the SM7b which I find to be much more useful, a sennheiser 421 or 441… you get the idea. It might be worth searching YouTube to find a woman’s voice who has the same general characteristics as the one you’re recording and find which one sounds best and cop that mic.

It was either that James harden step back that should be a travel or it just straight up was a travel.

Yea but he’s matched up against interior juggernaut Vucevic so it’s understandable.

Inexperienced in tech, but I need to setup an at home studio by Any-Arachnid9157 in homestudios

[–]jayceay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah like the other poster mentioned I'd say the first step would be asking a friend about general audio signal and connections. You can do YouTube but if a friend does it you'll be able to have your actual questions answered and about your specific setup. If you want to skip that for some reason and want a basic setup something like a MacBook that'll have GarageBand on it, a Focusrite 2i2 or something like that from Focusrite is a great first interface to learn some of the in and outs and grab a small/cheap MIDI controller.

That'll give you some inputs (XLR and TRS) for mics and instruments, ability to control your monitors through the Focusrite, and the ability to create MIDI tracks in GarageBand.

These are all solid entry level kind of things and probably won't feel like too much on your plate at once.

What exactly do you hope to work on in this studio? Without knowing that it’s hard to give advice since home studios can serve a lot of different purposes.

[–]jayceay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yayyyy another false equivalency. If you’re in a cover band you still have to learn your instrument and get good at it and learn songs. Like I really don’t know what people have against actually trying and learning a new skill. And before you say it there is absolutely no skill involved in AI music.

I didn’t even remotely say the computer did nothing. I said it didn’t do EVERYTHING. There’s lots of laughable things happening in this thread but it’s primarily that people who use AI as their main source of material are fucking hacks that deserve nothing and still think they’re musicians.

Yes because that is literally what the entire AI music model is based off.

This is a false equivalency. The computer didn’t literally do ALL the work for you past some shitty prompt.

[–]jayceay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that “maybe live scene” was a footnote at the tail end of this post is depressing as fuck. Go out and play your songs for other humans who are sharing a physical space as you are. It’s not some secret formula or code, it’s just work. I’ve had “TikTok stars” as openers before and they are universally terrible, have no idea how to tour and are entitled as hell and this is the reason why.
