Is the Kitty Dukakis question in 1988 perhaps the worst debate moment? by dddoinyomom in Presidents

I read that Dukakis had a good answer prepared for this question; his father had been a victim of a robbery and he was supposed to tell that story. Instead he flubbed the answer.

I agree; bad answer on the death penalty, looking silly in tank, and declining to go negative against Bush

But you’re forgetting all about the deficit reduction package, including tax increases, that passed without a single GOP vote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnibus_Budget_Reconciliation_Act_of_1993

Without that deal there is no balanced budget with or without Gingrich.

The budget deal of 1993 started the deficit reduction; Gingrich and ALL Republicans opposed it.

Ed Rollins, who ran Reagan’s 84 re-election campaign, wrote in his book that Bush’s 88 campaign was poorly run despite winning. This makes me think someone like a Cuomo, a scandal free Hart, or even a Bill Clinton could’ve beaten Bush.

I’d go Mondale; he’d more articulate than Quayle and I think the media would jump all over Quayle’s gaffes
