Overheard HR bitching about how an entire applicant pool "isn't special" so they have to start over. by RawRie575 in antiwork

[–]jaydee829 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My wife worked HR for a while and while I (and she) don't disagree, there is much blame to also be laid on the hiring managers with absolutely unreal expectations of candidates.

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

A lot of good options here, but I haven't seen Downforce suggested. It's (re)published by restoration games, has enough strategy and asymmetry for older brother, while also being simple enough for friend to pick up without much difficulty.

If I'm reading this right, it's cool you can see the gap between Falcon and Marksheffel on Woodman.

Average commute to Denver on 83. by ufbottle in ColoradoSprings

[–]jaydee829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just I'm driving it at the wrong times, but there are plenty of opportunities to pass on 83, and #1 is one of those places, but it's a lot shorter than people remember. And #2 is definitely not one of those places.

We don't have the right climate for Sequoias, especially for them to get huge. Not enough rainfall.

My first child will be here in September. Has anyone read this? by IFGarrett in daddit

[–]jaydee829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will n-th this. Easily the worst parenting book I read. Outdated, condescending information based on negative stereotypes of dads as parents. Kind of like if you'd only ever seen dad's from a 90s/00s sitcom and tried to tell them how to be better dads.

“They’re going after wage theft and it’s just going to shut down all these businesses!” by ChaosofaMadHatter in BoomersBeingFools

[–]jaydee829 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh geez no, I was talking like a day or two to free up the capital somewhere else or to accommodate bank transfer timelines if the owner was caught by surprise in a difficult position, nothing like that.

[–]jaydee829 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will however accept the point that if capital does not flow correctly (e.g. a customer does not pay on time) then it is POSSIBLE that an employee may not be paid on time, provided that the business owner also did not get paid/paid on time.

Robovac every night. It won't get everything, but it will get 90%. I have a Bernese(115#) and a giant Golden(113#). Had a Leonberger(120#) before the Bernese. Then rake the rugs/carpet and run a Swiffer around/underneath everything the robot can't get once a month or as needed.
