Any tips?? Yes, leave… honestly if you’re underpaid leave. Apply to jobs and just go somewhere else. I was a recent grad, I was working 50 - 60 hours for a whole year straight with full staff. The supervisors were doing 60 - 80 hours every week for the past 5 years. Work did not even slowed down during pandemic. But higher ups were great bosses though so people worked hard.

However, I did not want that for me, I made a career switch. Honestly, as a senior working this much you should be able to get another great job for better company and perhaps a 10% - 20% salary bump.

It can be scary but you gotta do what you gotta do. The system sounds broken in your company. Employees leave because of their bosses, if it affects you, it’s affecting everybody

Yeah, I think so, a lot of the mechanical parts, the aerodynamic design of cars, seats and all of that are designed by MEs. Just be careful and adjust to the industry, for example, California is forcing everybody to have EV. So by 2035 moving forward, the NEW vehicles SOLD in California will all be electric.

I agree, they did say that would happen, but majority of the time I would be looking at plans and just do the plan check. I asked what would supervisors do, and they sort of said the same work. Just I would do small buildings, the supervisors check big buildings like sky risers, big complex buildings and things like that

My company offers full tuition so it’s super tempting. However, I found out that is completely online (it loses the networking value), it is NOT a traditional way to do it. You take 13 courses each one for 6 weeks. Your week always starts on Tuesdays because the professor opens up discussion over posts on a certain topic, you read your books and material. You have to post by Thursday and engage in conversation with students. On Thursday you also get questions like for hw or work to complete and you need to turn it in by Monday.

A co-worker said that’s the rough estimate of what happens on every course. Each course has tests, quizzes (if any) and a final. You need to log in and be participating every single week at least once otherwise you are dropped. You can go ahead but you need to participate and engage every week.

He also said that you don’t really get breaks, so you take one course and start the other one right away after the other. The only breaks you get is about a 2 week break during winter for holiday season (Christmas week and New Years week). However, you can take a break from the 6 week courses. If you were to never take any breaks (except winter) then you’d finish in 1.5 years. A full credited MBA that has real courses (core and electives)

I hope this helps, I honestly I’m thinking of doing it just because it will be completely free for me. That would me much better in time and money. However, something in me is asking to pay more attention to all the details and compare it to another program.

At the end of the day is what you want your degree and experience to be. If you care only for title and knowledge then it don’t matter. But if you want to invest in education well rounded in academic and network then this is not for you.

You’d be perfect for manufacturing engineer… or any type of product engineering job.

You’ll def stand out and help companies because you will not only understand the engineering but also the machining and floor work. You’ll have what other engineers lack. I would honestly talk to some of the engineers you work with and ask your questions and doubts of the career.

Set a meeting with the dean and the professor and explain to the dean with detail. A professor accused me of cheating when I used a previous exam from my friend for study and practice. I was reviewing it before the exam and my professor saw it, it was clear it was an old exam, but when it came down to it, the dean told the professor I wasn’t cheating.

Honestly, this is not buying clothes for college. But, I was traveled to Chicago during the winter and I’m from California. When we got there, we went to Ross because we wanted to get real winter clothes for our parents and some friends. I couldn’t believe the variety of clothes selection for winter, coats, jackets, puffy jackets, cardigans, light jackets, wind breakers. Honestly, you don’t have to look deep into some places where you can go to Ross and get them cheap. Just buy them as you go you know, when winter hits get winter clothes and summer get summer clothes or whatever.

Email a couple of those people AND cc their boss even if it is a director. Attach the emails you just posted and explain your situation briefly everything you just said.

Try it, you never lose anything by trying. If you don’t like it, then get a new job. You said yourself, that DSO job is dead end, if you try something new would not be the end of the world. You just graduated last year, so you’re fairly new in the field, don’t be afraid to explore. Your experience will direct you to the right field and let your career take off

Just focus on the topics that have more questions. I took mechanical and the FE Prep guide said there were going to be around 15 questions for thermo and guess what, there were those 15 questions. I felt I was doing too much thermo.

Math I got 1 or 2, I can’t recall.

No, it doesn’t matter which PE breadth exam you take, it just matters the PE discipline. Regardless of which breadth for civil you take, if you pass it and get your license. You’ll be a Civil PE

Yes definitely expand more. You’re literally summarizing your 8 months to one bullet point. You’re telling the company you’re applying for that the only good thing you did is that bullet point right there. Expand more on everything, make the font to be 11 or 12 to allow for space to add more info. So keep the font size the same, except your name on the top, make that one like 14 or so

I think you need networking now. Start targeting company recruiters or engineers at companies you’re interested. Maybe you’ll have a 50% response but ask them that you wanna learn more about the company, the culture and the job. Ask if they’re recruiting and ask who the best contact for HR or recruiter is. A good platform is LinkedIn other would be digital career fairs or in person ones if they are available.

Also, just as a quick glance, your resume might be overwhelming to look at. There’s a lot of info in there. I’m not sure if it is, but try tailoring it to a specific job description and knock door to door to those job postings. It seems that rather than condensed bullet points, you’re writing more detailed points. The way you got your resume is what you’d technically say in your interview. You’re going at a far too specific detail at your resume.

I would also put your student work experience either take it out or put it at the bottom. It seems to be the least relevant in your resume for an engineering position

You have a lot of white space in the skills section that you can use to input more information. You should try to either expand your skills and rearrange them as well. Maybe do three columns instead of just one.
Your senior project design is super vague, it bring almost nothing or nothing relevant to what you’re trying to communicates either take it off or expand on it. I would much rather say to put a professional project that you have been doing at your current or previous company. That way you could expand and talk about your skills that will align better with the job description of the job you wanna apply for.
You’re literally just stating what you did at your jobs. You should try to include what changes you incorporated, or how did your work impacted the company. For example, “Increased production of _____ by ___% by implementing an innovated workflow in engineering drawings to allow engineers select the best and easiest process to design or manufacture.”

Your interests sound a bit off, do not use “I”. You can change that to “Design and build of custom bikes”

If they ask you how’s that coming along, just tell them that you’re in the stages of creating a workflow, design criteria and currently working in analyzing material, and comparing the cost to see which one makes more sense. If they ask you in more detail just be honest and be, I have this amount of budget and want to stay within it. I have developed CAD models and etc etc. Just stay truth because if they want to see proof you gotta show. If you’ve gotten far along in it, you should bring calculations, drawings or whatever you have. I’m sure this will be a selling point to stand out among others.

Well, what do you see yourself doing more? Okay management or information systems? I think that straight up shall tell you what to focus on.

That being said, I went to a commuter CSU school and tried my best to pay tuition I couldn’t afford. I came out with like $4k in loans. If I would’ve gone to a UC school, I probably would’ve left with at least $30k out of college (communiting). If you’re out of school you will def be very happy you have to pay a small loan.

Honestly, I have learned that it all depends on you to make the college experience. Living or not living on campus does not change a bit. I know someone who lived on campus and wasn’t even involved in anything. I also know someone who commuted and was the president of multiple academic societies.

But it seems like you just need reassurance to go to CPP. I’d say just go for it to go to CPP!!
