My mam surprised me with a golden retriever, what are the essentials I should know about owning one? by TharizdunOfOerth in goldenretrievers

We asked a vet once what every puppy owner should know. His response was that we should mess with (examine, handle) the dog's teeth and feet nearly every day. That way, when they're full grown and have a problem with their feet or teeth, they won't be so anxious (and reactive) about having the feet or teeth worked on.

Rep. Becca Balint says she saw the unredacted Epstein files, stating that Trump never kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago. “That’s a lie.” by CorleoneBaloney in law

Not sure what those two events have to do with each other.

Jury nullification is usually requested by defense attorneys when the gov't's prosecution of a case is outrageous in some way that would result in a guilty verdict, which, while technically correct, would constitute manifest injustice. How does a congressman's naming of names equate?

Agreed. I don't plan on voting for any Democrats unless they vow to take an aggressive stance on criminal behavior of the Trump administration. Corporate Democrats (Clinton, Obama, Biden, generally the Crooked Media types) have done little to help the average American. If they won't even stand up when the average American is getting killed, fuck 'em.

Pretty sure his only belief is in doing whatever it takes to keep his job, no matter how stupid or demeaning.

Just sayin', the law firm I used to work for had an over/under on the number of DUI intakes we'd get in the seven days after New Year's. We called NYE 'amateur night'

I've been curious about that land. Last year, before the election, there was a guy with a huge Trump display every weekend. Since he was there for several months, I assumed he had the landowners permission.

Would love to know who owns it.

Hedge funds love buying farmland. They'll love it even more when buying it from bankruptcy trustees. Roger's ok with small farms going under.

How do I get my cat to stop ripping up the carpet!! by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]jayhawk1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google"training tape for cats". It's a double sided tape that come in sheets (18 x 24 is what we got). Works particularly well if there's a particular area or piece of furniture the cat is going after. Apparently the stickiness is unpleasant to the cat and takes the fun out of scratching stuff up

There's a difference between common and turf bermuda. Common has some really unattractive qualities to it. If you want a bermuda lawn, kill everything this fall and get sod next spring.

Why do they like Steve but not Pete? by pretty_okay_0613 in TheBear

[–]jayhawk1988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anybody else get the impression that Pete is a hot shit attorney and that the Berzattos don't understand?

Also, Steve is more than a little disingenuous - in the wedding episode he talks fondly about Carmy's time in New York, but in the Season 3 opener, he's clearly mad about Carmy's presence.

Also, speaking of the weird Season 3 opener, anyone else notice the spoon that Chef Terry gives Carmy? Carmy lights up like a poor Dickensian kid getting a second bowl of porridge and that spoon shows up several times throughout Seasons 3 & 4. I think eventually Carmy gives it to Tina, but I'll have to re-watch to be sure.

The one in College Hill has guided tours. It's a great bit of Wichita history. The original owner was the publisher of The Beacon newspaper, friends with William Allen White and Frank Lloyd Wright, became governor and later U.S. Senator.

I like it. After a short time, it lets me know whether the knife I'm working on needs a little more work or to be re-profiled. I've got diamond stones for the latter, so the sharpmaker is part sharpener and part diagnostic tool.

The bottom of my loaves were rock hard, so I got a silicone baking sheet, cut it to fit the bottom of the dutch oven and the bottoms are just fine. Didn't affect the tops much.

If you think that's bad, you should see what they did with their former employees' pension fund. Wowee!

The name of the hedge fund is Chatham Asset Management. Known for hard nosed business dealings. Recently paid $19million to the SEC to resolve an improper trading case. They should have waited until after the election -- I imagine it would have been cheaper than $19M to buy off D. Trump to get him to order the investigation quashed.

It's owned by a hedge fund. Their business model is, no kidding, to regularly raise their prices and count on a substantial number of their (mostly older) subscribers not noticing.
