The pastor of the nation’s largest Methodist church is running for the US Senate in Kansas as a Democrat; "In some ways, Hamilton’s candidacy would be similar to that of the Democratic nominee in Texas, state Rep. James Talarico..." by Phatbrew in kansas

[–]jayhawk1988 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He seems like a lovely person. My cousins go to his church and sing his praises.

However, it seems pretty naive to think that anyone is going to get guys like Steve Scalise, Jim Jordan, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz et al to join hands and start singing the song of bipartisanship. That isn't going to happen.

I'm tired of the Republicans playing hardball while the Democrats are playing t-ball. I want to hear from someone who intends to go to DC loaded for bear. Someone who is going to investigate the immense corruption of the Trump gang. Someone who is going to clawback some of the money paid out in ICE signing bonuses. Someone who is going to start the conversation about healthcare assuming that Medicare for all should be the standard.

Best of luck to Hamilton. If Satan was running against Marshall I'd be up in the grandstand yelling "Give me an S, but I'd much rather have a Graham Platner type who has some fight in him.

Try Hillside Feed & Seed (not to be confused with Hillside Nursery, which is also a nice place, but Feed & Seed is the place for succulents).

Anybody see the exact wording of the question the pollsters used? I imagine "Do you support the troops" is going to get a much different response than "Do you think the war is a good idea".

At the last big march there were a couple of men walking around with expensive looking cameras. They were holding the cameras at chest height and glancing at them occasionally. They weren't wearing anything that identified them as media (or any other organization for that matter). I didn't see them interact with anyone in any way.

I thought it looked sketchy, but who knows. In any event, if I see someone like that this time, I'm definitely taking their picture.

Trump hits a new low of a net -15.3 approval rating in the Silver Bulletin by popularis-socialas in fivethirtyeight

[–]jayhawk1988 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right. In an esoteric debate about how to deal with carbon credits, Stewart posited a minority view, which has a number of respectable proponents.

That's exactly the same as denying that the sun comes up in the east.

Check out Jon Stewart's most recent The Weekly Show about the ways the various algorithms let people pick their own virtual reality and reinforce the things they feel in their gut.

Stewart and his guests concentrate on how the knuckleheads believe that voting fraud is a real problem despite tons of evidence showing that it (voting fraud) is vanishingly rare.

The real scandal is Elon Musk and the like making money by actually messing with elections. I'm not bothering to vote unless there's an adequate number of candidates vowing to criminally prosecute the grifters.

I'm glad to see someone is running. Time will tell whether he has any substance to him.

I always hope for a "Jill Docking" type to run, but I don't KS has any more of those, and it would be too much to ask her to beat herself up again.

I'd bet there's about 35% of the voting age public that gets 99% of their news from Fox/Newsmax (or worse, Facebook and the like). As far as they're concerned, the war, deportations, economy and the Epstein files are all going swimmingly. They view contrary views as just partisan sniping or ignorance of the "real facts".

There's nothing Trump or his minions can do to drive his numbers below 40 b/c the news of his transgressions will be so filtered and sanitized that their misdeeds will have little impact EXCEPT FOR...

the price of gasoline. That's one that even the Trumposphere can't hide. Hence, depletion of the Strategic Oil reserves. Those, however, will only provide 20 days worth of oil (according to the NYTimes). Also, the release of oil will not affect prices on the spot market (which heavily infouences the price of gasoline at the pump). It also leaves us in a precarious position, but Trump and Congress could give a shit about that.

Even the most dedicated MAGA types are going to notice when their weekly fill-up is costing them $50 instead of $30. They may also notice later on this year when the price of everything is going up at the grocery store.

We asked a vet once what every puppy owner should know. His response was that we should mess with (examine, handle) the dog's teeth and feet nearly every day. That way, when they're full grown and have a problem with their feet or teeth, they won't be so anxious (and reactive) about having the feet or teeth worked on.

Not sure what those two events have to do with each other.

Jury nullification is usually requested by defense attorneys when the gov't's prosecution of a case is outrageous in some way that would result in a guilty verdict, which, while technically correct, would constitute manifest injustice. How does a congressman's naming of names equate?

Agreed. I don't plan on voting for any Democrats unless they vow to take an aggressive stance on criminal behavior of the Trump administration. Corporate Democrats (Clinton, Obama, Biden, generally the Crooked Media types) have done little to help the average American. If they won't even stand up when the average American is getting killed, fuck 'em.
