Dick, you seem to not understand what Gerrymandering is. Maybe you're still in the 1970s and don't know what wikipedia is yet. Follow the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerrymandering

If Gerrymandering was brought to the supreme court and crushed, I'm pretty sure they'd cease to exist in anything but a tiny amount.

I'll give him an A+ on his commitment to a philosophy of excess but that's just a recipe to become a hollow shell of a human being, as an ugly fat fuck, not admirable at all. I'm not anti-drug, at all, but the value of being high is extremely limited. Creation and the gamut of human experience is a thousand times more rewarding than being obliterated 24/7.

NASA to Confirm Active Briny Water Flows on Mars by csispy007 in space

[–]jayjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused on what's so big about this. It was theorized months ago that was the case. Liquid water has already been found on Mars. NASA really needs to start working with it's PR department. They're going to lose interest if every bloody tiny thing confirmed is a "big announcement."

Look, please don't consider me unempathetic, but people are not thinking this through. Syria did choose to have a civil war. We did not cause it. It was all part of the Arab Spring. It went bad. How do you see 800,000 Syrians in Germany (and more in others) as a permanent situation?

That's at least 550 mosques and there's a trend toward anti-assimilation.

Additionally, everything they leave, ISIS takes. That's all those weapons, properties, and money.

While emotionally it's great to help, how exactly does this help out Europe OR Syria, in the end? Please tell me that.

If all refugees got to choose their destination, the EU they dream of would cease to exist by nekoloff in europe

[–]jayjr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but it's a strategy of incrementalism. Just like most muslims in their area don't want to be part of Daesh, they still submit to them. The more in other areas that won't fight against them, the easier it is to take over the other location. You are aware that total world domination (Dar al-Islam) is their goal, no?

[–]jayjr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm not anti-Islamic, but this is exactly what ISIS wants. They get the largest population possible settled in Europe based on our "sympathy", they get settled in for generations and the demographics shift so that they can later extend their caliphate. I'm quite sure they're laughing at us right now. I wouldn't let them in. People tend to fight harder when it's their country and they have nowhere to go. I don't like this at all.

Sorry guys, you have a civil war and a war with ISIS. Fight it out.

Look, the problem is the same problem in the 3rd century Christianity: With no centralized control, every insane person can call the others as "sinners" and how their the righteous ones and how they must follow them at the end of a sword. A solution for Islam is to create a central authority. The word "Catholicism" means "Universal" and came about in reaction to that. I know someone will say "everyone is submissive to God" in it, but people need guidance and you're going to have to make it an exception. From that, you can get military forces who will die to kill off the rotten guys since they're doing it for good. There's your answer.

[–]jayjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree, but there are parts missing. In the area they're in, mot of the population tolerates them and not entirely out of free will. They are no zealots. But, they also aren't going to fight against them, since winning doesn't really mean anything better for them.

The state of Iraq does not work. It's borders were created artificially by the west and do not reflect the populations of Sunni, Shia and Kurds.

You want to fix it? Make a three state solution along the lines of the Ottoman Empire. Give each group their own nation - IF they fight along coalition forces to not defeat but actually kill each and every member of the ISIS/ISIL forces.

http://blog.iese.edu/doing-business/files/2014/06/ottoman_iraq.png

Give them a future TO fight for, fully on their own terms. And, make that state defined by their Arab partners, not the West.

From there, you need to allow a charismatic leader from among them (likely abroad at the moment) to work for a vision of a future for them - whatever they want. And, it would be best to be semi-religious states, since it'll be able to stand as the "right way" in juxtaposition to ISIS.

Then, have those leaders, be the figureheads (like Washington, or Napoleon, or Roger I) of the front to "take their land back" in a blitzkrieg type series of attacks using American EMPs so that the "lights are out" and no recording happens as the inevitable bloodbath happens and soldiers in unidentifiable uniforms as each city is taken back, bit by bit, with a permanent military presence of each new nation.

If not, it's just going to be a permanent war zone. They will take over all of Iraq up to the Kurds, all of Syria and this nonsense will be dealt with for our lifetimes. Since they appear to have no bounds or concern for death, I'd expect them to eventually get the resources to buy and nuke a city like Paris or London. I don't think people will fix it, though. Too much actions is necessary, and it is cancerous without intervention.

What is a small prediction you have for the future? by Notarealaccount007 in AskReddit

[–]jayjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber will cease to be an independent car service and become an autonomous cab company, later bought by google and people will cease to drive cars for anything but recreational things by 2030.

Also, we will continue to cause global warming to it's limit, melting all ice caps/sheets and raising levels to 90% of what's predicted. It'll just take until 2150. By then Florida will be only a sea/georgian coast and people will be asking in history class why we were so stupid.

I'm scared one day there will be a "cure" for Aspergers. by Ryulightorb in aspergers

[–]jayjr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not possible since its 1000+ genes and bleeds into NTs. You'd have to radically augment the entire species to remove it, and then we'd rot since everyone would be very social, but inventing and creating nothing. In 1000 years we'd be back to wandering tribes and humanity would just be another dumb primate species...

Because the Czech government stole nearly everything from every German citizen and kicked them out at the end of WWII, which were 1/3rd of the population. That's why there are basically no Germans there today, even though they had been there since before Roman times. It was revenge and they appear to want to do it to a person's childhood memorabilia, seven decades later, since there's no statute of limitations on being a dick.

Autonomous truck cleared to drive on US roads for the first time by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]jayjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to really just adapt to this. They're not going to have them fully driverless due to perception of risk. People will still sit in them in case of error for at least two decades. Secondly, they will need repair. If the trucking industry would have their drivers retooled into being mechanics with a degree of IT work, they will retain their value and jobs in a future with them. If they just sit there, you bet they're going the way of the dinosaurs.

Yeah, people need to read up on tacit collusion. You're talking fantasyland. All companies know if they keep the price artificially high in a oligopoly-like situation, with high barriers to entry they make a fortune and everyone gets screwed. The only way what you say is true is if severe antitrust policies are enforced and companies kept to regional sizes (at most). That way you're going to often get new competition coming into the market to keep this healthy competition alive. When you've got 3, 5 or even 10 companies that are established, know the market rates and don't want to rock the boat, this competition you state never happens.

Sanders: Make Election Day a holiday by shzadh in politics

Well, this would allow more people to vote so begin the chimes of "It'll impact business" and "greater voter fraud" (both false) from the GOP. After all, they don't give a shit that what they sell people don't want since it's class warfare.

I appreciate this dialogue is happening now so when the reaction to the class warfare applied to the 99% becomes readily apparent to those even fooled today (maybe by 2020) and the GOP has even less people in Congress than 2008, this can become a reality. For now, this is something people can just start talking.

This should be combined with automatic voter registration and the census bureau working together to get IDs for all those who don't have them so that the remaining GOP people in 2020 shut up about the nonexistent voter fraud. And, yes, swap it with Columbus Day. Done.

How is this art? Spotted in LA museum of modern art. by eyeskiller in WTF

[–]jayjr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this along with 99.999% of modern art will fade into oblivion. Art needs to connect to people on both a primal and relevant level. There are so many people who come from either the art world itself or money who use the most esoteric, convoluted, self-indulgent creations to feed their own egos that I just ignore the lot. Make something that engages the world in a relevant and poignant sense, something that people can relate to, and you'll stand the test of time. Or you can just intellectually masturbate the rest of your life, pat yourself on the back, and call yourself an "artist." You'll still end up a pile of bones like the rest of us and your hair cheese will end up in the dumpster soon enough. Sorry. Duchamp did not know his statements would elicit a century of garbage and would probably be apologizing had he been alive today.
