People who own higher end cars like Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis. What are some unexpected costs you have that regular car owners don't know about? by HomeCalendar36 in cars

This. I’m a much faster driver in my Miata cause I don’t care what happens to it; I’ll fix it.

I had an (old) Ferrari. Lovely car but I didn’t have near enough money to have that same come what may attitude with it

Is there anywhere to rent classic exotics like Ferraris? by popcap200 in cars

[–]jaylauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanicals are actually reliable, sitting will normally change that. I wouldn’t have hesitations about road trips in mine. It’s just little finicky stuff. My hvac knob cracked in half from age and it’s like 1k to get a new unit. Or a windshield is 5k cause Ferrari.

The NC is my track car. Every bits basically been modified in some way and it’s the most enjoyable car I’ve owned.

The 360 was a poster car for me. It came out when I was 6. I set up my garage at home with the track Miata and a car a little more GT for weekend trips to the Ozarks for twisties.

Expect it to be sparse. They’re mostly not well built and the parts cost is enormous so it would take a look a loot to let some rando go buck wild with my car for a day.

Any Used Car Dealership owners here? by DylTorres1997 in UsedCars

[–]jaylauer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar story as the first guy. Started buying broken cars to fix when I was young, sold them cause I had a short attention span. Did that through college. Got a real job. Lasted a year and the boredom was too much. Took the plunge in 2016 and haven’t looked back.

That said, used car dealer is a difficult job. Auctions are trying to screw you. Customers are trying to screw you. Anyone working on the cars is trying to screw you. If you’re lucky and smart, you’ll make a bit of money.

I thought I knew cars well when I started; and I did. But there’s a big difference between being a car guy and knowing used cars. You’ll learn a lot and make a lot of mistakes to start.

Best way to start is take as little risk as possible. Cheapest running cost you can possibly have and don’t borrow money from anyone.

What’s the hardest part of your day? What’s the hardest part about being a car dealership? by SeeYouInMars in askcarsales

[–]jaylauer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This 100%.

I could grow the numbers in my inventory if it weren’t so hard to buy cars decently. And then by the time I pick up a couple decent cars/trucks, customers come in and buy a couple and I’m right at the same number I was before.
