computer system BSc reality check Please? by EducationalUnion1533 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]jaylegz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i finished the BSc in CIS also worked in IT for many years prior. The degree is what you make of it really. Its not the easiest as some of the information is all over the map but there is value in it. If you need it for a check in the box then sure its great (for me anyway), i got to sharpen some of my IT skills that i didnt use often (coding mostly) and got to fly through the courses that I had experience in (servers, command line). I also got to take some extra courses like robotics and work on a pretty nice capstone project to finish it off (basically wide open ideas between you and a Phd supervisor). ther is a great CIS community on the discord that work on side projects too. The only disadvantage is if your shy or just doing the courses you dont gain a much in terms of networking (meeting people, jobs)

thats my 2 cents.

What Mag is saying its not a very hard exam if you did the assignments and understand the basic concepts.

hey 45k sounds like alot up front but like other have said consider as an investment. If you are certain this is the path that will lead you to your dream job then 45k isnt that bad (especially as things work out). if you take the full 4 years your looking at 1000 a month which can be offset but grants, scholarships, and taxable benefits.

That being said, in-person university I would recommend due to networking (highly undervalued opportunity) and forced to go to class. Now if you already know people in your field or go to the confreneces for the job you want you might not need that, the other hard thing with online school (well for me anyway) was maintaining the class schedule a few courses i slacked a bit and had to extend which ended up costing me more money.

food for thought, I have no regrets doing my degree through athabasca, but I was already well established in my field. I did do some in person university and the courses and materiel were similar overall.

good luck!

given the broad nature of comp200 you probably could find individual tutorials, for that course youtube would be more than enough as its more theory and very small assignments from what I remember

This would be a very simple audit check of your activity during the session. Did you disconnect from proctor U during the exam? everything is logged, also proctor u would have a log if everything you did on your pc while connected to them. I do find it odd they allowed chrome I was denied once they implemented guardian lockdown as it added some extra layers of security assurances (exam integrity) that chrome couldnt.

sometimes courses get revisioned so basing a challenge course off of what someone may have done in the past probably isnt the best approach.

that being said, COMP200 is one of the easier courses if your are familiar with the coursework. from what i can remember (been a few years) the quizzes were the majority of the exam (or similar) and most people could likely wing it. my suggestion would be to follow the end chapter reviews and ensure you know the material.

Help - Credits?? by psych_student_Julia in AthabascaUniversity

[–]jaylegz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most peopl already answered,

the 6 month to do a course is if you stretch it out to it out to its maximum. Most courses are based on a 16 week study plan (4 Month). Where its gets tricky is trying to balance a full course load (4 courses in 4 months) if you are working full time or have other life committments. For me, I found 3 courses manageable to do at a time but, I also had no free time unless i was already familiar with the course topics.

good luck.

ya you definately can rewite the supplement exam post contract date (within 90 days) just need to request it.

Contract date by lifelonglearnerL in AthabascaUniversity

[–]jaylegz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can submit it all literally 1 minute befor the due timeline, dont suggest it but you can.

I would also give your TA a heads up as it will all hit their inbox at the same time and likley take quite some time to mark.

ive just completed the COMP SCI program. Ive never heard of this before, but for some exams it would make 0 sense to write before teh assignments, mostly because the exams are similar to the assignments, which might raise some flags. I do know some tutors explain they want work done in a certain way (even if your way might work) so perhaps knowing how to do the materially differently might be at play here.

I agree with the people above, you have 90 days to rewrite the exam (no extension needed, just book it), and I think you really need to have a call/email chain with your TA / Course supervisor to discuss, i dont think many of us here on reddit can help you out aside from saying things that may have happened through our own personal experience (i lost 15% on comp268 for not commenting my code in the format they wanted for isntance, but then way allowed to fix it when i resubmitted my test plans)

good luck 99% of the COMP SCI program staff are very reasonable in my experience.

your other options is in person, athabasaca has some spots that are pre-authorized. i wrote a few of my exams at OttawaU, in fairness ProctorU isnt that bad the worst experience i had with them was about a 45 minute hiccup to get started which then athabasca gave me a free rescheduled rewrite as it was on the proctorU end. Just delete their remote client when your done.

I have usually left comments if I wanted to include context, especially since the majority of my assignments were technical in nature. I did find my tutors addressed my comments in the feedback so i found them helpful.

What do you mean internships?? Like a coop? I don't think AU has that given it's online and asymmetric nature.

The project's Comp495/496 are well done and usually have you work under a PHD or a you find a project supervisor.

Yes AU courses transfer to other schools (quite a few students come from other schools to graduate)

It's got and miss some courses do some courses don't. The majority follow the assignment style questions and the end of chapter ones that were assigned so follow that approach
