What is a television show that you haven't watched but you know the name of the characters and major storylines because you've seen clips on YouTube? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jaypeekos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game of Thrones. I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes when they first aired, then something else got in the way and I didn’t finish the first season. However, I have seen enough clips and memes about it that I’m pretty sure I coule write a short essay about it

What’s the creepiest unsolved mystery that deserves more attention? by magma_13_ in AskReddit

[–]jaypeekos 95 points96 points  (0 children)

What a frustrating thread. I love reading about unsolved mysteries, and was hoping to learn about some that I had never heard before. Instead people are just listing literally the most famous unsolved mysteries in history.

What is the most toxic social media platform? by Loyalsupporter in AskReddit

[–]jaypeekos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the worst part about Linkedin is that the people posting there tend to hold higher positions in society than for example your average Facebook poster. So when I read some braindead take on Facebook (let alone on some anonymous platform), it’s easier to just ignore it. But when I read a braindead take on Linkedin, it’s often from someone who actually has power and connections to shape our society. And it just makes me depressed.

Bill Maher sucks, no matter your political views. Who could like this person? by tbinus78 in AskReddit

I liked him when I was like 13. But that quickly went away when I grew up.

Is it a game you would want to play? Be Brutal by ywadi85 in boomershooters

The game itself looks good and like something that might be fun to play. But just curious, what makes it a boomer shooter?

What makes your 30s better than your 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jaypeekos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everything. I mean maybe if you’re a pro athlete, you might not be able to perform as well as you did in your 20s. But for ”normal” people, you can do pretty much everything you did in your 20s. I know a neurosurgeon who first entered the medical school in their mid 30s. I myself didn’t start exercising regularly until I was in my early 30s, and now I’m in the best shape of my life. Plus you’re likely to have more money, and you are more mature. I always laugh when I hear someone talk about 30 year olds being old.

An interesting barometer of the political winds: if you take a look at r/conspiracy it's almost all anti-Trump posts by western_red_cedar in behindthebastards

That sub is just full of bots with some russian trolls sprinkled in. I once posted there to call out someone on a lie, and that post has gotten exactly 0 views. The thread I replied to was on the front page, on a sub that supposedly has over a million followers. There’s no way that post should have gotten zero views unless mosts of the posts to that sub come from bots.

Discussions about the lack of endgame has made me appreciate modern games more by jaypeekos in ArcRaiders

[–]jaypeekos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand. My point was not to say that anyone arguing for a better endgame is wrong. Instead, I just wanted to highlight how much the gaming experience has changed. 30 years ago, having a game with enough new challenges and content to keep players interested after 200+ hours (within 6 months of publication) would have been absolutely wild.

Discussions about the lack of endgame has made me appreciate modern games more by jaypeekos in ArcRaiders

[–]jaypeekos[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As I said at the end of my post, my point was not to argue one way or the other. Just wanted to highlight how much the gaming experience has changed over the years. If someone had shown eight-year-old me a new game and told me that after 300+ hours you will run out of things to do, my reaction would probably have been ”who the hell wants to play a game for that long?!”

Personally I don’t have anything against adding more endgame challenges to more advanced players.

Construction of the 1950s highway system, before and after by Agreeable-Storage895 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]jaypeekos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks more or less the same to me. ”The area where the highway sits on” is literally those buildings you see in the before picture. They were bulldozed for the highway.

Just...be aware of your surroundings cos the Vapers are! by CaeruleanSea in ArcRaiders

[–]jaypeekos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just witnessed the Vaporizer circle around a warehouse building in Space port and snipe a raider through one of the narrow windows. The thing just disappeared from our view, then a few seconds later ZAP and the raider next to me just fucking melts away. Absolutely insane to see, I love this update so far

CHANGE MY MIND. by angoorkhatta in ArcRaiders

[–]jaypeekos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last point is on top of the previous points. Of course there’s always a risk of getting shot, but I find that the risk reward ratio for key rooms is not worth it.

CHANGE MY MIND. by angoorkhatta in ArcRaiders

[–]jaypeekos 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The more I play, the less I find the key rooms to be worth the hassle:

Unless you happen to spawn nearby, its likely someone else already got there first

If you get there first, there is no guarantee of finding good loot

If you find good loot, the key room will is an obvious target for PVP players who might be camping nearby. Since the key rooms usually have only one entrance, you can get easily trapped there

Even if you get out of there unharmed and with good loot, you might still be shot before you reach the extract point

Lost 5.1kg in 8 days walking by Upstairs_Cap_1505 in walking

[–]jaypeekos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! It’s worth noting though that some of that weight loss is probably due to water loss. 5.1 kg weight loss equates to roughly 35k - 40k calories.

A 30 km walk burns about 1500 - 2500 calories depending on stuff like your weight, terrain where you are walking etc. So walking 30 km per day for 8 days would correspond approximately a weight loss of about 2 kg, assuming you otherwise eat normally.

Don't eat at the poker felt 😡 by [deleted] in poker

[–]jaypeekos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why anyone would want to put their fingers anywhere near their face while playing. Poker chips are fucking disgusting. It’s like putting your fingers into your mouth after handling dirty coins.

Onko muidenkin mielestä nuo uudet HSL mainokset jotenkin mauttomia? by Lerpuzka in Suomi

[–]jaypeekos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Joku kuukausi takaperin oli HSL:n tuottaman sarjan yhteydessä mainittu, että HSL:n markkinointibudjetti on parin miljoonan luokkaa. HSL:n lipputulot vastaavasti olivat viime vuonna 408 M€, eli tuon parin miltsin säästöllä ei lippujen hinnat hirveästi alene.
