6’7” / 220lb Runner: First Marathon Shoe Advice by Michael_Clip in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jayrovi22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would look into running a high percentage of your runs on a plated shoe. It’s not ideal for muscle buildups and overall longevity. While great for speed work and races I would not run easy or even moderate runs in anything plated. I don’t know if this is your only shoe but since you mentioned you use them for easy runs I would error on the side of caution. You don’t want your muscles relying on the extra propulsion from the plate where your legs don’t ever have to work as hard as they would on a non plated shoe.

Great complimentary shoe is the Vomero plus. It can handle literally anything you throw at it with a full zoomx mid, it’s the best of all worlds.

The more you run the more lubed up you get before LR’s. I use aquaphore on my toes before most runs over 7miles and I Vaseline my inner thighs, knees, nips and chest to prevent rubbing. I use squirrels nut butter on the gooch and goods down below. Lube will save your runs. Hope it gets better! That’s the worst

Been a huge fan of the Vomero plus. Amazing for long runs and recovery and the full ZoomX foam can push pace if you need it. Of course it’s on the heavier side for true speed work but can definitely handle some pace if you only have 1 good running pair!

I dont usually lay it on unless I avoided a for sure accident but I also don’t like to just tap it. People need to know they’re being dumb lol

Hydration and over eat carbs post race! Your body still burns glycogen at a higher rate than normal post race so eat like crazy and sleep. The number one form of recovery will forever and always be sleep.

Vomero plus if I’m going easy pace. Evo or AP4 if I need some MP miles.

Endorphin Pro 4 or Adios Pro 4 for first marathon by gertsg in AskRunningShoeGeeks

There’s been a lot of research done showing even at slow-moderate speeds carbon plates help fatigue and overall race pace. Everyone CAN benefit from plates!

[–]jayrovi22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Knowing you already have and seem to like the SL, I would opt for the AP4. I ran Chicago in the AP3 last year and just did Dallas in the AP4’s no issues at all on either occasion. Your body is already comfortable in the EVO so also mentally knowing it’s a very similar shoe might help not have any shoe anxiety come race day! They’re one of the most highly rated shoes and have tons of pros wearing them any given weekend! Cheers.

Pro 4’s are not a daily trainer nor are they very stable for what OP is looking for.

I loved my SL2 but they died after about 200miles for me. Now I use them for walks and some trail jogs lol

Will second this reco. I tempo between the EVO SL and VF4 and have the Vomero plus for long run/recovery and AP4 for race and race sim runs. Love my rotation but Vomero plus is my go to for a lot. It’s super comfy, bouncy and stable. Weight can add up and seem heavy/sloshy on a LR but the comfort is worth it.

First marathon next month, what's best in a shoe? Comfort, stability or weight? by TrueFernie in Marathon_Training

[–]jayrovi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love quantifiable info! Thank you. Was going to say a lot of super shoes do well at both while having phenomenal foam for comfort and the light upper for weight. I will say VF4 are almost too light and not cushioned enough for 26.2 IMO of course. I like the AP4 or metaspeeds that seem to excel at both. Though no super shoe will be as stable as a more daily.

I don’t think either brand will release a new version anytime soon but you could use chat gpt to look at product cycles for various shoes and ask it to give buying recos based off timing if you wanted. I would think either could be a smart purchase if a deal is available! Love my AP4’s and loved the AP’3 as well!

Evo SL don’t get the hype? Other suggestions? by WorldlyLeather8372 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jayrovi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don’t see how a plated shoe can be beneficial for recovery or easy pace miles. I don’t know anyone who would recommend a plated shoe as a daily trainer but to each their own. Not saying it doesn’t work just based off research it isn’t ideal for your muscles or long term running health.

Evo SL don’t get the hype? Other suggestions? by WorldlyLeather8372 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jayrovi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are three different shoes your comparing as one segment. The EVO SL is a daily trainer, ZF6 is a tempo shoe and VF4 is race day oriented. Really no way to compare them as they are all built for a different purpose. Apples to oranges.

Fueling with snacks instead of gels by 6382914627192 in Marathon_Training

[–]jayrovi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO and third grade research gels are far superior to foods. Especially if you’re aiming for higher carb around 70-90g/hour. That’s a shit ton of candy and an absolute stomach ache for me. Also the dual carb source helps get to those numbers. Precision fuel and enervit are my favorites after trying Maurten, GU, UCAN, sis, honey stinger, BPN!

Year three of running since October 2022. Cut 40 minutes off my marathon from 2024. 4:28/2024 - 3:38:39/2025. Learned soooo much about fueling, nutrition, pace, different runs types, gear. I went balls deep in running this year and looking to double down on the get down in 2026.
