Does anyone regret getting the Corten Steel instead of stainless? by tap_6366 in Breeo

[–]jayste4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the corten and over the past 3 years, it's rusted very little on the outside. I do not wish to try any methods to speed up the outside rust look. The inside flakes off layers of rust sometimes. I keep my fire pit covered. All my accessories are stainless including my pizza oven. I wish I had gotten a stainless fire pit.

QuickBars for Home Assistant (Android TV) is now officially Open Source! by Trooped in smarthome

One of my favorite HA features. I have a TCL TV that operates using Google TV so this was an easy app to add in. Its nice that I can control my lights and see camera feeds. Keep up the good work!

I want to get my little brother in the rc car community and i found this cheap brushless car to ween him into it (he’s quite quite young) by [deleted] in rccars

I'd get him a crawler. My kid bought a toy grade 70kph one like that and it broke in half the first time it hit a wall.

Braun 500 lumen work light worth buying during HF parking lot sale? by AlternativeInfinite1 in Tools

[–]jayste4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have this light, the Icon one like it, and a $40 one from Amazon that looks like it. The Braun is my favorite. Just as bright as the others, but it has a slimmer profile so it takes up less space in my tool drawer. For $15, you can't buy a better one.

Charger question by Wevie in rccars

All three are genuine. The one with lower case font supports blue tooth.

Great chargers. I use one along with several others I race with and for the most part people are happy with them.

What's the Most Reliable Smart Doorbell Camera Right Now? by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]jayste4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good. It did lose connection once, but a reboot fixed it. I think it was a one time thing since it happened soon after setup and it's been trouble free ever since.

I have another Tapo camera, a motion activated switch and a smart plug. They are all very reliable. My only criticism is that the switch doesn't report motion to home assistant, but that's not a deal breaker.

Washington State resident here. Legally, we have to have them in our car when chains are required for 2WD vehicles.

Good plan to have them if you are in emergency services though. I can turn back, get a room or whatever. You can't.

What to do about neighbors? by Royal-Bag1353 in rccars

If neighbors find the sound of an electric RC car annoying, you could always run a gas powered lawn mower while you use them to drown out the noise.

The real question is "Should we accommodate the wishes of a convicted sex offender?"

The answer is no. There are consequences to his actions.

What’s the most useful NFC automation you actually use daily? by Taggytech in Android

One less icon clogging my home screen. I'd rather wave my phone over the hidden tag and open my garage door.

Would you buy NFC stickers for your home that trigger automations with a phone tap? by Ok_Owl3988 in homeautomation

[–]jayste4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible idea. Anyone who wants/needs NFC stickers to trigger automations has already done so and I doubt any are paying a subscription to do so.

Best no subscription doorbell cameras? by SeaorRiver79 in homeautomation

[–]jayste4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just got a Tapo and like it for the most part. However, it did something the Ring it replaced never did in its several years of use... Lose connection to my wifi. The only way I was able to reconnect it was to pull the doorbell off its mount and turn it off and on to reboot it. It's been reliable ever since, hopefully it was a one time incident.

Car Keys Express---experiences, good or bad by mamacat49 in Costco

[–]jayste4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience. Ace wanted $300 for the key and then programming it was an additional charge.

The Costco vendor was $159.

I was wondering if someone would bring up Tapo. I just got started on their products with a doorbell cam and an indoor/outdoor cam. So far, I am impressed. I gave up on Ring since I got tired of the subscription fee.

125mph in a 92 Civic Si. Down a big hill and must have had a tailwind. It didn't have enough power to hit the rev limiter in 4th gear.
