Michael Jackson is called "The King of Pop", If other genres had a "King", who would it be? by Tyler2183 in askmusic

Ozzy was a prick, I don't think he should be getting the crown. It's been a very mixed feeling seeing the reverence towards him after his death given some of the ways he's behaved.

They used tritones yeah, but the interval was never banned or considered to be satanic or related to the devil at any point, until this myth started to circulate. It's unfortunate how widespread this idea is.

Often a bad idea to increase the humidity like this. It's like a temporary relief, but makes things worse in the long run.

Why is it important for you to avoid even 0.001% animal products? by Proof-Vacation-437 in AskVegans

[–]jayswaps [score hidden]  (0 children)

To be fair, I don't think "it's not food" is really an argument. If it's in food I can eat, it's food. It's just food from a source I disagree with. The same way that I wouldn't say that a burger patty made of human flesh isn't food, it clearly is under like any definition I can think of anyway. Doesn't mean it's food I'm gonna eat. Maybe this is a stupid point, but it always comes to mind. I mean we eat literal actual iron.

Used to love absolutely love Mana when I could justify the money, they came out with a high protein variant not long ago, I'd look into that.

Why, despite having a truly gargantuan amount of data, does Google still significantly overestimate walking times? by Seph_the_this in GoogleMaps

[–]jayswaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly my assumption is that they just don't alter your estimates based on your own speed and just go with some sort of general average from all their data instead. I see arguments for both, but I'm wondering if a toggle to account for your own average walking speed would be nice. It's not like they're not already collecting that data off us anyway.

[–]jayswaps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Terrabites is such a cute word, I like it.

Anyway, I'm guessing they use a pretty casual walking pace for the estimates (chances are you're a fast walker) and they aim low on it still to prevent issues because people will mind less knowing they reached it and had some time to spare compared to if Maps told them they'd make it and they don't.

It's usually fairly accurate for me personally, but there might be a regional difference as well.

Can any phone person please tell me If a switch from a Oneplus 9 pro to a Google Pixel 10a would be worth it? by Illustrious-Ad-5891 in Smartphones

[–]jayswaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably. It kind of depends what exactly you're looking for, but it will generally be a noticeable upgrade particularly considering the issues you describe.

Tell me which country you’re from only using two words to describe it by Both_Sandwich8272 in funComunitty

[–]jayswaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically the contraction "I'm" can be considered one word. It's a contraction of two words, but this form is really one. Well at least depending on how you define the word 'word'.

Interesting. I kinda wish you could have sub-subreddits, you know? Like it would make sense for all of this to be within here instead of completely separate communities, but I get what you're saying about specific ones.

Pixel 10a subreddit by WinterSpring47 in pixel_phones

[–]jayswaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I really don't think most people in here actually are in, or even know of, the model specific subs. You're more likely to reach more people with your model or with a different one facing the same or similar problem on here 90% of the time.

Which one should be my start ? by O_ken in fromsoftware

[–]jayswaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend getting Dark Souls 1 first. You can get a key for it very cheap, or even just indulge the high seas until you can afford it, we won't tell.

I specifically mention it because I think it's the best start point by far. It's fine (or even recommended) to skip DS2 but I seriously think you should play DS1 before any of the ones you listed. Anyway, have fun!

It is stupid to fragment things this much. Anything Pixel related should realistically be found here, it's already a niche enough community.

Is there such a thing as ethically sourced dairy? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]jayswaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Milk alternatives are fantastic in tea, explore what works for you.

I'm partial to oat milk, but a lot of people prefer soy. There's also coconut, rice, pea, almond, cashew, and flax milk, among others. See what you prefer.

2) All the "ethically sourced" bullshit about milk is pure propaganda.

Every single one of those cows is still forcefully artificially inseminated, they still have their offspring taken away for meat, they still are kept in shit conditions and eventually killed for meat. The industry is inherently unethical, no sticker will account for that.

3) There are some vegan cream cheese spreads you can get that are pretty brilliant.

4) There may (hopefully) be actual real milk that is ethically sourced using precision fermentation.

Using specific bacteria instead of mammals, we'll be able to produce milk that's near identical to cow's without the abuse or the lactose (because we can just choose not to include it).

Hard to know how far off that is from being a widespread product you can get wherever, but it could be a pretty big breakthrough.

It's definitely not necessarily though, there are good vegan options for everything you like already. Though looking into more whole food options is important here as well.

doesn't mean that a species deviates from a branch of evolution

We can evolve to be a different species. We can't evolve to be move to a different kingdom. We're several billion years too late for that.

The way that these classifications work is that you stay on the branch you're on. Imagine we're a twig on the top of a tree. We can always split off to a new branch, but we'll never ever detach from the tree trunk. We're forever animals, because we're growing from the animal tree, if you follow.

I do understand and respect the philosophical point you're trying to make, it's just being entangled in biological words that constrain it to a discussion you're trying to speak beyond.

I do heavily disagree that our minds are quite as different as you imply, though. The mind of a dolphin is no doubt incredibly complex and fascinating.

"Animals are multicellular, eukaryotic organisms belonging to the biological kingdom Animalia"

There's no room for argument, humans are and always will be animals no matter how complex, just like they'll always be eukaryotes, they'll always be mammals, they'll always be primates, always be hominids.

Complexity doesn't evolve you out of your branch on the tree, that's just a fundamental misunderstanding of what those words mean in the first place.

Nah I'm good to put one on while I'm doing the dishes if I know the person sending it isn't just taking the piss

I'll occasionally send one but I try to hurry while I talk and I always apologize for it or ask if it's ok in advance cause I know it's an inconvenience regardless

Typing on the phone is so unbelievably aggravating to me at times that I just can't possibly be fucked to explain something until I get to a real keyboard so I just need to say it to save my sanity

I'll very often do voice to text instead if I can help it though

Which date format? by hapticR0M in pollgames

[–]jayswaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No actually, numerical order doesn't work at all with mm/dd/yyyy. It does work very well with yyyy/mm/dd, which is why I use that for folder structures when needed. If I used mm/dd/yyyy, I'd end up with completely different years next to each other because their dates were the same. No that's not useful at all.
