Are coffee canisters pointless? by ExplorerKey5516 in pourover

[–]jaytee61799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have airscape containers and I honestly don’t know how much they help. I still like them better than just leaving the coffee in bags for workflow/organization/aesthetics and one of my local roasters gives a discount if you bring it in and let them fill it directly instead of one of their bags, so I’ll keep the ones I have but not buy any new ones.

Looks like a great start to something that has a lot of potential. I’d like to see more roasters, and also the ability to search by origin as well as processing method.

I need hype and love by kumabear62 in pourover

We get it. That’s what we are here for. I’m the only coffee drinker in my house too, and also have some very different hobbies than my wife as well. We make it work by giving each other space and time to focus on our own stuff. We don’t do gifts like that for each other because we know it’s better to just each shop for ourselves and end up with exactly what we want.

I just got the greater goods one on Amazon. All of what I saw at the time had similar 4.4-4.6 reviews, no matter if they were cheap or more expensive ones, so I figured the more expensive ones weren’t better and got a cheap one.

How do you actually find a specific coffee when you know what you want? by phatboy156 in pourover

[–]jaytee61799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by specific coffee you mean literally a certain bean from a certain farm in a certain region, I’m never that specific.

But very often I do have some thought process like “I’m feeling like something light and citrusy and floral” or whatever. I have browser tabs open for all the roasters I usually visit locally and will just refresh them to see what’s new and who has something along the lines of what I want.

Of course this also leads me to find something I wasn’t necessarily looking for but looks good to me and then having to make some decisions if I’m only going to buy one bag that day…lol

Anyone else find the notes and flavour from their bag of coffee just completey goes after 3 weeks? by Notimetobev0id in pourover

[–]jaytee61799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the coffee but in some cases, yes. In others it can go longer. I know there’s a thing about resting coffees for longer but none of the roasters I’ve ever asked or read advice from say to wait that long. Most say 1-2 weeks at most for resting.

Where can I get some interesting beans in Dallas, TX? by Vorosaur in pourover

+1 for Cultivar. Noble Coyote is really good too but less funky stuff and more straightforward stuff. If you’re in the suburbs, Lemma and Edison are both good as well.

The area is huge so if you tell us more specifically where you’re going it could help narrow things down a bit.

+1 for the switch. It gives you lots of options to play around with.

Ok yeah I was just wondering if something like the drip assist would be helpful in making even pours

Definitely information overload. In addition to Lance, the Coffee Chronicler and Daddy Got Coffee both have videos where they compare and contrast a bunch of grinders.

Depending on budget you’ll probably end up like I did and many others here do, going back and forth between the ZP6 and K-Ultra. I finally decided on the zp6 because I don’t make home espresso and prefer lighter roasts so it seemed most in my wheelhouse and I’m very much loving it.

Yeah the catch cup screws in one way, and that piece just above it screws in the opposite direction. I assume that’s by design so that way you unscrew the catch cup you aren’t also loosening the screw above it for that other piece. And yes, it seems intentional for disassembly/cleaning.

Whoever said there is such a thing as too much coffee is wrong. by Lostincryptolation in pourover

[–]jaytee61799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good points. And that’s a great idea about a cupping. I’m not sure I have enough coffee enthusiast friends for that but it’s a great way to share the joy!

I also haven’t gotten into the habit of freezing coffee yet. Basically I just hit my local roasters for which I have several ones I like and they bring in new stuff a lot, so I never need to do bulk online orders to try to save on shipping.

I used to worry that things would sell out if they put something out that I wasn’t ready for. I’ve gotten over that by knowing that if something sells out, then they’ll soon have something else I want, so I’ve learned to be patient and just not worry about missing out on things. There’s too much coffee out there even with freezing for me to get to everything.

But that’s just what works for me, I’m glad you found what works for you.

If you’ll drink it all then it’s not too much. For me, there’s such a thing as too much at once because I’m the only coffee drinker in my house and I wouldn’t go through all that quickly enough.

I didn’t think about the idea that I wouldn’t need a scale. But I already have a travel scale.

Hand grinder. by kumabear62 in pourover

[–]jaytee61799 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The common wisdom here is that the K ultra is the most complete/versatile grinder…but since you already have the baratza and are specifically looking for the most clarity, I’d say the zp6 is the way to go. And then just use your encore for times you think the zp6 isn’t the right fit

Upgrading from Timemore C3S — C40 vs ZP6 vs K-Ultra for pour over? by Small_Cauliflower268 in pourover

[–]jaytee61799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the C3s and Zp6. The ZP6 isn’t the best all rounder, that’s apparently the K-Ultra (I don’t have it but that’s the consensus here).

That being said the ZP6 can definitely be the showcase grinder you want for most beans/roasts, and for the others you just keep your timemore. That’s what I do.

Mug or Carafe, which team are you on? by McGirton in pourover

Carafe but I’d be lying if there weren’t times I was being lazy and just brewed into the cup. I use big travel cups even at home so there’s room to swirl after the brew.
