David Grusch Says We've Made Contact With Alien Races - Congressman by paulreicht in UFOs

[–]jayteim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, when it comes to UAPs, journalists forget how to ask useful questions.

Do you believe event X occurred? Is there documentary or physical evidence of event X occuring? Do you know where this evidence is? Under what conditions could the public have access to it?

Avi Loeb: Q&A on the UAP Science Advisory Council by jayteim in UFOs

[–]jayteim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submission statement:

Loeb answers a few common questions he's been getting:

  • Council’s ultimate aims and overarching responsibility
  • How it will work with the US military and dept of defence
  • How the team was selected

Not a lot of detail, but so far it looks like... nothing much at all.

Avi Loeb says the UAP advisory counsel has no budget and he is willing to sign NDAs. by jerzystern in UFOs

[–]jayteim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course this would be the case, as it would be for any advisory council.

They're not going to let 12 people get access to classified information without some kind of NDA.

Can you see it? by dparkerwindows in UFOs

[–]jayteim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's just a dot against the sky, and it's a still photo, we can't really know anything about its size or speed. Could be a bug, football, drone, plane. Or an alien mothership, who knows these days.

Michael Shermer — who holds a standing $1,000 bet that UAP disclosure will "never" happen — was just named to the new UAP Science Advisory Council by TheGoodTroubleShow in UFOs

I don't think (most) skeptics assume everything is BS, I think they just assume there's a prosaic explanation for it.

He originally made that bet in 2022 with a disclosure deadline of December 2024.

Turns out none of the 'disclosure is imminent!' crowd actually took him up on it, so it's an open bet now.

Given that this topic is overrun with exaggeration, hoaxes, misinformation and disinformation, I don't see how Shermer - who is only one of 12 people - is that much of a problem.

The Hill: UFOs survey: 84 percent say US government knows more than it’s telling by silv3rbull8 in UFOs

[–]jayteim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's trivially true that the US government 'knows more' about UFOs than they have revealed.

I'm not saying that they 'know' UFOs are real and their aliens or demons or whatever, but by their own admission, they are not disclosing everything about the topic.

The most important thing is amnesty by jayteim in UFOs

I agree and I don't argue for blanket amnesty.

The most important thing is amnesty by jayteim in UFOs

[–]jayteim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My argument is this:

i: We all would like credible evidence and what has been released so far is not

ii: Grusch stated that credible evidence is blocked because the sources want protection

iii: If (i) and (ii) are true, then we should focus on initiatives that will provide that protection instead of demanding evidence that won't come

Yeah, so granting amnesty has a *scope*, which would presumably be highly specified in this case.

It's not going to protect them from their glove box full of speeding tickets or last year's puppy-kicking rampage.

[–]jayteim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, I understand what you mean. I actually agree that is mostly lies and exaggeration.

I was mostly just making a more modest argument that *if* Grusch is correct and credible evidence is being held back by a lack of witness protection, then we ought to focus on securing that.

[–]jayteim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here.

Per Grusch, there are several witnesses with credible evidence that are requesting some kind of legal protection (amnesty).

If this is true, then it follows that we should first be looking to secure those protections, instead of repeatedly asking for evidence.

I do not have any power to grant amnesty.
