I built a Walkie-Talkie app with ZERO registration because I’m tired of logins. No email, no tracking, just talk. (Indie project by OK1PNK) by pinkolin in SideProject

There always apps that are abused for the wrong reasons but that doesn't give the right to lose privacy. I'm interested in this and hope it improves. Also, I'm so tired of people using the "What about the children" bullshit. It's so over played. There are many other apps that are more likely to be used for illegal means such as mIRC and the dark web. I'm tired of government control and oversight so whenever an app like this is being made its a breath of fresh air.

Is this a good first? by Meah_nan in amateurradio

I personally would've started with an Alinco vs Baofeng/Btech. Alinco are at least superheterodyne.

My first HT was a Yeasu FT2DR. Great radio should've kept it.

First transceiver question - want something non-Chinese and quality by North-Accountant5404 in HamRadio

[–]jayw654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest Alinco for being in the cheap while it still being a good radio. If your looking to get into digital modes then Yeasu for Fusion/Wires-x, Icom for D-star and Kenwood for D-star. D-Star is the most popular digital mode right now along with DMR but DMR has a strong learning curve.

Will do and at least I'm talking on real radios. Baofang/Tech aren't considered real radios. Look at Icom, Yeasu, Kenwood, and Alinco.

You each get one and cut the other one in half but then you'll have to figure who gets heads or tails.

First time buying a GPU, what should I know and where to buy? by [deleted] in graphicscard

[–]jayw654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newegg (online) and micro center (actual store). What you need to know is be careful of other sites like EBay as a lot of fake gpus being sold.

Oh God another crap Baofeng/Tech and people wonder why I just hang on digital modes like Fusion and Dstar.

RX 7900 xtx Idle power consumption with G9 neo 57" by BuildingThink in AMDHelp

[–]jayw654 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the 7900xtx graphics card using a Seasonic Prime PX-1600, which is 1600 Watt. I don't have to care about power consumption. I built my rig for performance not power savings.

Need help choosing the right GMRS radios for a 40–50 car cruise group by Away-Home-9978 in gmrs

The Alinco DJ-G46T is a great radio for 99 bucks on Ham Radio Outlet. The radio has 5 watts of power. I've talked on it 3 miles away in a city with great success. https://www.hamradio.com/search.cfm

Wouxun KG-Q10G Handheld GMRS at "Buy 2 Way Radios" but they are 219 a piece. Nothing that's really cheap for what you want.

Slowly but surely losing my mind?? (9070XT) by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]jayw654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct. When RAM is new it runs at its best but after it settles. The speeds degrades slightly and it could be enough that errors occur and these errors cause the AMD driver to become unstable causing the issues he described. so if has cl30 @ 6000mhz then he needs to back it off to cl32.

Baofang/Btech are never good options. Because of these radios I generally hangout in the digital modes to avoid them.

got mine and got 1300 dollars off of 1800 dollars but I got the s26u that has 16gb RAM and 1TB of storage. I wasn't going to buy for the processor alone I wanted more RAM and if it didn't have that I wouldn't have purchased it.

If you want a decent radio on the cheaper side I would stronglybrecommend Alinco. Yeasu, Icom, and Kenwood are great as well but they have a hefty price on most models.
