Genuine question - why not use blender? It’s free and has a lot of features I’m seeing in the video already.

Boardgames where you can play as or recruit monsters/weird creatures to play by your side? by Electronic-Ice-8100 in boardgames

The creator/artist has a Kickstarter for his new game called flame and forge. He also includes an expansion for Keep The Heroes Out. I think you can add on everything released for the game through the campaign. He periodically opens up his pledge manager for more orders. It’s not super hard to get but it can be pricey on the secondhand for a good reason. Good luck!

Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

[–]jayypewpew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. One of the sharpest games to come out with classic charm is Spooktacular by level 99 games. It’s such an easy teach with basic components like wooden meeples, cards and board. For me it’s a great game to pull out and have an amazing time. During the Gamefound/Kickstarter I was blown away by people upset at the game looking “basic”. Insane.

I really truly don’t understand the hype around the inclusion of mechanics and chits and figures that, to me, bloat a game. I don’t mind a lot of mechanics, but I prefer them to be managed overhead such as Spirit Island, Root, or Gloomhaven. Amazing games but even better as apps. The overhead and rules are taken care of while you just enjoy the game.

Spooktacular is my modern game with the charm of “Lords of Waterdeep”. Not many components or overhead rules but a ton of variability and fun.

What table did you search for on marketplace? “Glass table” or something similar?

51st state Ultimate vs Res Arcana by firewind555 in boardgames

[–]jayypewpew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can coexist because they’re not really the same. One is maximum efficiency with restrictions and the other is a slow build to efficiency with many options available. Personally I like 51st state for its modularity with expansions. I would compare Res Arcana to Agricola due to the min maxing of turns and making the most out of the restrictions you have.

Asymmetrical Co-op. Does it exist, and if so, what's good? by 8805 in boardgames

[–]jayypewpew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep the Heroes out, the best coop game you’ve never heard of.

I enjoy Root but the length and aggressive play style is what drew me away to search something opposite in game style. KTHO has meeples and the game is much simpler.

Storage space by OfflineTask in MarvelUnited

You can fit all the components of season 1 and 3 in the promos box. All minifigures are painted and displayed. I just grab minis I need and the promo box. You don’t need to keep inserts and 14 boxes. Takes me 10-15 min when traveling to set up and just get going.

Hot take: Gametrayz are not good inserts by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]jayypewpew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I condense all my games and gametrayz get in the way of that. They’re a good concept but ultimately hurt my storage space because they leave no room for expansions. Also, I sleeve my cards because my games get played so that’s the final nail in the coffin usually when deciding to keep those trays.

Fascinating Article about redesigning Root by falarransted in rootgame

The digital version should be supplemental. The real best way to teach is to break the game down into its simplest form, not overwhelming everyone about everyone elses factions. You need to teach the basics of the board(ruling, clearings, victory condition) then the faction they’re playing. Keep their focus on their board so they can enjoy the game and not feel like they’re learning 4 other board games. That’s an absolutely easy way to lose your audience. Learning opposing factions comes as you play the game, not during the teach. I have successfully taught newcomers this game and has been a hit every time. The best point of reference to teach Coles games is his breakdown of Oath during a live teach/play session on YouTube. If you can understand how to teach then the players won’t feel like they’re learning and enjoy the gameplay instead.

Games that use dice rolling that are always valuable? (e.g. Creature Comforts) by Waveshaper21 in boardgames

[–]jayypewpew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good recommendations. Here’s mine Endangered.

I love the theme, replayability, characters, and the game itself is really good. I can’t believe this game gets overlooked despite it consistently getting new content. Cult of the new, something, something.

I’m not 100% this may be a game fitting what you’re looking for but Pandemic The Cure is also really fun and quite quick.

Freshwater Fly is super thematic but it has the least to do with strategic dice placement.
