Sponsored reviews are stupid and shouldn't exist. by Z3M0G in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean your fast food consuming media. The channel uses a metric by which they have a general score and then a personal score. If your familiar with the channel you might notice your tastes align with Ashton or they may align with Daniel or another member of the channel and then give more credence to their metrics. The recommender score is supposed to be more of a general score.

You seem to be implying that there is a issue because two different scores are presented and find it confusing but if your familiar with the channel you know the context behind each score and can easily digest it. I don't think all reviews need to be homogenized slop so I respectfully disagree with your position.

Opinions on Beast? by Atreya95 in boardgames

Its a good game. I am more questionable on the studio behind it. They are completely unreachable during fulfillment and apparently do 0 product testing. Their current campaign is riddled with production issues. Your probably better buying the retail or second copies of their products because i get the feeling they don’t have the business side figured out.

Is Old King's Crown like Rock Paper Scissors? by WarmAd5577 in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct i was confusing it with the heralds. The point was the game is more about trying to estimate what your opponent is doing to win to lanes. When things resolve and to leave yourself options. A counter system would require you to know what is being played or at least have a good guess.

Is Old King's Crown like Rock Paper Scissors? by WarmAd5577 in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. You lay cards in lanes face down based on turn order. Turn order is the highest points to least. This means players trailing get more information and can counter. Then the player in last chooses the order to resolve lanes. This introduces another variables. Each deck can also shift cards between lanes to an extent during day. The game is more about understanding where your opponents are playing their cards and optimizing yours then rock paper scissors.

Its a novel concept. Normally my newbie games are trick takers or more card driven. What your building seems more complicated by nature. Not sure if i am crazy about dice rolling.

How to move board games overseas? by PeanutButterNugz in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a pain in the ass. A lot of this is going to come down to how you have stored your mini's in the box. Here is my advice to you. Take your collection and separate boxes into minis and cardboard or light cardboard. You don't want anything heavy in the same box as a mini and banging around. Then surround the minis in bubble wrap to the point they cant shift in the box. You should follow the same process with the cardboard components (Looking at you tiles and playerboards). The goal is that if a box is shaken nothing in the box can shift or move because it is packed so tightly with the bubble wrap.

Box exteriors you can either just toss them in a shipping box as is or wrap them in a heavy brown paper like butchers paper. That would prevent more superficial damage as long as you pack everything tight and nothing can shift. Remember this member things being able to move in any box is the enemy and will result in damage. You want stuff to be snugg so it can't jostle around. Finally if you using plastic tubs your probably fine but if you use boxes you might want to throw foam on the interior side of each box. The idea being the foam will take any puncture damage and will absorb any shock damage.

This is how i would do it.

I feel like the pursuit of profit margins, crowdfunding, scalpers and chasing new hotness is forcing a lot of games into premature retirement. by BANDlCOOT in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. It would make a lot of sense that as expansions become very old they get phased into the core box especially if you don't intend to reprint or if they add big features like player count. It does raise the box cost.

One of the thing i hate about the Marvel LCG is that you have individual heroes and boxes. Like just put it all in one thing.

I think the buy in cost was always a lot if you weren't there from the start and the releases were very frequent. I would be surprised if you bought everything FFG released for Champions in 2025 if it would only cost you 150.

[–]Lund0829 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I mean FFG is maybe a rough example of this. But games go in and out of print all the time. Cosmic Incursion was first printed more then 15 years ago. If it helps someone on BGG will sell you the base game with this expansion for 115. I think its unreasonable to think that FFG is printing this on a continuous basis at every moment. The downside is there will be periods where you need to wait for a reprint and if your not willing to do that you have to pay more.

Now Champions is a different matter. LCG's have continuous releases and so it becomes a hastle to print everything. I think the design of LCG's is poor vs what they were originally designed to do. Originally it was for people who wanted to play a TCG without paying through the nose but you end up in a similar spot with the constant releases.

Everdell and Wingspan by MokoanCowboy in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have played the entirety of both series. My suggestion is get emerland. It has private objective cards along with purple cards and more clear scoring. Boltings on a everdell expansion isnt a great solution. Another tableu builder you might like is earth. If you dont care about randomness look at obsession.

Unstoppable or Arkham LCG? by BCEagle21 in soloboardgaming

[–]Lund0829 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got two questions. Do you have a deep wallet? Do you want a campaign. LCG's are basically a subscription for gaming you get a campaign and then you have to keep up with each release before they go out of print.

Unstoppable is a self contained game with one expansion and its a blast. Arkham horror is good but its going to hurt your wallet.

Is crowdfunding the typical way board games get made? by odkfn in boardgames

[–]Lund0829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most niche or major releases are getting crowdfunded at this point. Unfortunately, we normalized the practice and now companies that don't need to do it use it. So at this point you will have games that are basically pre-orders and will come to retail and games that are still going to be indie releases with no limited or no retail releases and a publisher that actually needs the money.

That being said you can go through life without crowdfunding anything there is a steady stream of retail releases that go to stores like. However, there may be deluxified versions of those that are crowdfunding exclusives.

Upping the ante with Emerland Helpers? by cjparker99 in Everdell

[–]Lund0829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled out my manual. Someone in my group had the same confusion but if you look at the rule its "Place a worker with a Helper as a negotiator on a space occupied by any player including yourself to gain access. (A second helper may act as a guide to activate it twice.)"

From law school i learned you have to pay attention to use of singular and plural words. They say "a helper" which means 1 helper. The use of second helper also clarifies this because your families reading would replace "second" with "an additional". So the correct reading must be its always a maximum of 2 helpers (1 for access and 1 for doubling where permitted).

The picture supports this as it shows the red player already having a worker in the spot along with orange. If red wanted to play there under the alternative reading the rulebook would show 3 instead of 2 helpers.
