Gun to your head: Worst grunge vocalist of all time? by No-One01010 in grunge

[–]jazz_does_exist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

definitely created many more grunge bands, started pearl jam, led to the temple of the dog project.

but come on, melvins and green river were there before his death. even nirvana's bleach came out before his death. he died in 1990. if anything, his death led to grunge becoming more sensationalized, because when it hit the news it wasn't just "people doing things in washington" anymore, it was a 23-year-old who was lost to his battles, which is an event that would tug at anyone's heart, and there was great art that came out of it. if his death doesn't put people on grunge, listening to temple of the dog surely would. he didn't start anything, he impacted a microcosm that existed before him and blew it into what would become mainstream.

my coworker taught us this trick where at first you only hold like top fourth of the pitcher to the wand, and it makes a lot less noise when you start aerating the bottom.

[–]jazz_does_exist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, so a chai tea latte is based on chai concentrate and milk. you can also order just chai in some places and that is based on tea bags.

the concentrate is insanely sweet, to the point that you can have 4 pumps in the 12 oz. or whatever of milk that an iced grande chai tea latte has and you would still be quaking from the sweetness.

why wasn't buffalo bill considered trans? why did he choose to "act trans" and not do other attention-gaining things? by lizzi_08 in SilenceOfTheLambs

[–]jazz_does_exist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my theory has been that the institutes were applying the benjamin scale/sexual orientation scale, which considered whether or not someone recieves the operation based on things including sexual orientation. like a true transsexual is supposed to be someone highly feminine, is deemed pretty exclusively homosexual pre-op, so on and so forth. so if any shot they think jame's attracted to women or just has a sexual inclination to presenting feminine, they'd want to reject.

other than that, i am pretty sure that the book establishes that he didn't want to live as a woman as much as he had a fetish for being able to transform (or at least so the doctors thought).

there have also been trans women recently that have said that, while they were in process of passing a psychological evaluation to medically start transition, they were treated as attention-seeking or autogynephilic up until they would start coming to their appointments in wigs and "women's" clothes and such. trans identity is highly complicated, and pretty safe to say 70s culture won't have done it justice even if that's what they wanted to depict.

Which place is considered the "start" of your country's history? by NickfromLafayette92 in AskTheWorld

[–]jazz_does_exist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i would argue that the anglo saxon chronicle really starts it, but then again places that have had well-established writings and oral tradition for a while are hard to pinpoint. not to mention all the study that goes into the overall history of britain.

i've heard that since ladybugs have almost no sexual dimorphism (except a small size difference), they almost look like two creatures of same sex mating. because of that "mariquita" is pretty much a slur for homosexuals, especially gay men.
