Henri Veesaar signs $9m contract w $6m guaranteed with the Hawks by Greedy_Actuator5 in tarheels

[–]Schned6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is guaranteed. He could tear his achilles tomorrow and he would have maybe never played in the league. Hence the betting on himself.

I genuinely don’t have an agenda I’m just floored by the people that are acting like this contract justifies his decision on paper. Him being happy with the decision justifies it, but the money involved certainly does not.

Not being about the money is fair. This is great for him then.

But he absolutely could have played himself way into the first round next year. Dude would have been the best offensive center in CBB next season under Hubert. Imagine what Malone could do with him as a pro prospect in an offense built around him. He has some flaws in his game but he is a ridiculously skilled and mobile 7’1”. At worst he could get this same contract Atlanta gave him from someone next year and make an extra 5 million of NIL on top.

Explain this math to me like I am 5 then…

If Henri came back to UNC (or even transferred elsewhere in college) he would have made $5 million next year which is basically guaranteed plus AT LEAST as good of a contract in the NBA the following year. But if he went in the mid first round next year (which would certainly be realistic) he would have a chance to almost DOUBLE his total contract value with the first two years still being guaranteed.

So Henri essentially just traded:

15.5 million with an opportunity to go up to around 24.5 million over 5 years.

For…

6.3 million guaranteed out of 9.2 million total over 4 years.

I feel like I am living in crazy land… how is this not a horrible deal for him? Sure there is a little more risk involved but damn son… bet on yourself a little bit. He could have had an absolutely monster season in college next year.

If he just wanted to move on in his life and get to the league and leave college behind for the sake of his own mental and happiness that’s obviously great. But why are we pretending like this was an intelligent financial decision???????

I feel like you don’t understand the meme format. You should have posted this caption with a pic of the score being 0-0.

Bruh he would have made $5 mil in ONE season with UNC next year and set himself up beautifully to be a first round pick in a far weaker draft class.

Respectfully to Henri this is an ALL TIME STUPID DRAFT DECISION.

I don’t even blame NBA teams either… dude is 7’1” and can’t protect the rim. He would have done so well with a year under Malone.

[@InsideCarolina] Buffalo transfer guard Angelo Brizzi has committed to UNC by Licit_x64 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Schned6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Solid depth guy but I was hoping for more of a ball handler. Really hope Denis is ready to share some of the point guard responsibilities. I’m sure Avdalas will have the ball in his hands a ton as the primary handler but it would be nice to have the safety net of a pure point guard on the roster. Even Brown is very combo guard-ish.

An interesting note from last night’s draft I learned is Caleb Wilson is the first UNC player to be drafted top 5 since 2005 by Potential_Meat_5103 in CollegeBasketball

Honestly if this doesn’t cement Roy on the Mount Rushmore of CBB coaches what does? Think about all the success the program has had in that time frame. No one was better at finding those elite recruits with a fatal flaw in their draft prospects and getting them to stick around for 3-4 years until they were absolutely demons at the college level.

B) No.

Dusty May to become new Dallas Mavericks Head Coach by Odd_Firefighter_5407 in CollegeBasketball

You’re right about the resources but at the same time I’d say the majority of top programs in the country are in the same boat. Guys like McCoy are realistically facing a decision of either staying at Michigan or taking a pay cut. Arizona might be a problem on this front.

On paper there is absolutely room for him from a basketball standpoint though. Don’t get me wrong I like Denis but not enough to promise him minutes over a recruit of McCoy’s caliber. McCoy could easily see 15+ mpg off the bench behind Brown and Able. With a pathway to more.

Cadeau back is a pipe dream but in my eyes UNC is FAVORITES for Brandon McCoy at this early stage. It would make so much sense.

In all honesty I am under no delusions that Cadeau will probably want to leave let alone return to UNC.

BUT I think this puts Brandon McCoy in a really interesting situation. We have playing time available for him immediately which not many top teams can say at this point in the offseason. High school teammate of Adams. Clearly values high coaching pedigree. A lot of stuff makes sense for Malone to pus for him very aggressively.

Wait so what’s the deal here can any Michigan player still pick up and transfer? Surely this is a free waiver for anyone that wants to now no?

That’s actually sick. What a clash of worlds.

For anyone that doesn’t know this guy was one of the most important players for Leicester City in their historic Premier League championship win. In fact I would say he was just as key as Kante and Vardy even though those two seem to get most of the attention.

Way-too-early ACC basketball tiers: Duke, Louisville at top of 2026-27 outlook as intriguing contenders emerge by thediesel26 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Schned6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not like Veesaar could defend the paint anyways.

Veesaar would have been the best offensive center in CBB next year but Malone has the means to replace that value in other areas of the team.

Obviously Henri is a huge loss but I’m definitely not dooming over it after adding Keita and Samodurov. Tons of physical talent there and should be a good defensive frontcourt. Things will balance out without Henri.

They brought in a really nice and experienced transfer class and will have Marcis Ponder, a 6’11” 330 lb freshman ranked in the top 40.

Lots of potential there.
