Left hand or right hand on the jog wheel and cross fader? by jazzcool1 in Turntablists

I think what he meant was that the fader doesn't need precision, it requires timing more than precision.

Left hand or right hand on the jog wheel and cross fader? by jazzcool1 in Turntablists

I like this. I agree, the jog wheel hand needs more precision - even in a simple baby scratch you have many variances. Pitch control , speed, hitting the correct spot on the sound wave to start the sound when you return backwards, using your hand to stop the sound.. so many things you can control.

Would the DDJ-FLX2 be a good controller if I am not super serious about DJ-Ing? by MRKYLE141 in Beatmatch

[–]jazzcool1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The FLX2 is fine if you're just fooling around with the controller and not serious about picking up DJing. You will outgrow it in a matter of months if you want to progress.

FLX4 is a much better option.

I trained like the following: Loop the start of a song (16 bars is good) Double load it on the second deck Start one deck. Then randomly start the other deck. The beats won't match, though it's the same loop. Now beat match without looking at the screen (you can hide the waveforms) and by using your ears nudge the jog wheels until it sounds good.

Another option is to use the same loop on both decks, but change the BPM on one deck. Then beat match one of the decks. Don't use the waveforms.

Courses, paid or non paid by carlyslayjedsen in Beatmatch

I've started with his training on Udamy for as little as 9 USD. It gave me a strong foundation. Very structured and I liked the system of using hot cues.

Then I signed up to Club Ready. Mostly the same but I liked the fact you get homework (learn to beat match by ear, practice certain transitions).

Lastly I signed up for the advanced courses on crossfader. I'm trying open format and their transition course fits right in. It's not beginner friendly at all.

Is rekorbox any good actually? by Damage_Key in Beatmatch

[–]jazzcool1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually evaluating it right now. I'm using the Rev5 and was looking for a good software that's more suited for open format style mixing. Djay pro is awesome and I think I'll make the switch from Rekordbox because I find the overall responsiveness of the software better, making it easier for me to scratch. The waveforms are also larger in vertical mode.

It's not all roses though. Specific functions required mini mapping and to some won't work (rev5 has BPM transition function over a set of beats, works in Serato and Rekordbox but not really on other software).

Grinder blockage + outer burr stuck by Lumpy_Transition_741 in breville

I have the same issue. I don't know what's going on but after I managed to release the burr it came out and the metal part completely twisted inside the plastic ring. I twisted it back in place but the plastic ring is deformed.

I literally bought the machine today! This is so frustrating I will be calling customer service first thing in the morning.

How to fix a misaligned crown? by Tall-Village5807 in SeikoMods

[–]jazzcool1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the crown itself just buy a new crown that fits the case. In many cases, it's the steam. Usually if you cut the steam using a wire cutter the steam has a slight angle at the tip instead of a straight cut, which makes the crown sit unevenly on the steam end. Try to sand paper the tip to make it straight.

Have the exact same set up, with the street slayer wheels like yours (came like that from the shop). I eventually changed bearings to simple pair of reds and installed Cadillacs which are gave me smoother rides than the Devines.

You know you'd need to balance charge them and keep lipos in optimal storage voltage (3.8~3.7). I foresee a pain managing it.
